Objective: to verify the effect of educational technologies on the quality of life of people with diabetes.

Method: quasi-experimental study, before-and-after type, developed with a group of 34 people. Six interventions were carried out, in groups or individually, using educational technologies, such as clinical simulators and physical educational games.

Since food denomination and labeling can play a crucial role in consumer expectation and perception, investigating these interactions is essential. Thus, this study investigated the influence of plant-based product denominations on consumer expectations and sensory perceptions.

Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) is a multifactorial disease involving genetic and environmental factors representing one of the most frequent cancer-related deaths worldwide. Tobacco and alcohol use account for most SCCHN, while a growing subset of oropharyngeal cancers is causally associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Despite improvements in overall survival, patients with HPV-negative locally advanced (LA) SCCHN continue to have a poor prognosis.

The optical, structural, and photocatalytic characteristics of these NCs were scrutinized by using optical absorption (OA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and methylene blue degradation, respectively.

Digital health in geriatric oncology: A Young International Society of Geriatric Oncology review.

The integration of digital health technologies in geriatric oncology has the potential to enhance patient care and self-management. This review article discusses the applications of these technologies, including teleassessment, telemonitoring, and teleintervention, within geriatric oncology, and evaluates their potential to improve cancer care and patient outcomes. We also review challenges to the implementation of digital health technologies among populations of older patients with cancer.

Camera trap surveys of Atlantic Forest mammals: A data set for analyses considering imperfect detection (2004-2020).

Camera traps became the main observational method of a myriad of species over large areas. Data sets from camera traps can be used to describe the patterns and monitor the occupancy, abundance, and richness of wildlife, essential information for conservation in times of rapid climate and land-cover changes. Habitat loss and poaching are responsible for historical population losses of mammals in the Atlantic Forest biodiversity hotspot, especially for medium to large-sized species.

A DARPin promotes faster onset of botulinum neurotoxin A1 action.

In this study, we characterize Designed Ankyrin Repeat Proteins (DARPins) as investigative tools to probe botulinum neurotoxin A1 (BoNT/A1) structure and function. We identify DARPin-F5 that completely blocks SNAP25 substrate cleavage by BoNT/A1 in vitro. X-ray crystallography reveals that DARPin-F5 inhibits BoNT/A1 activity by interacting with a substrate-binding region between the α- and β-exosite.

A model-based approach leveraging in vitro data to support dose selection from the outset: A framework for bispecific antibodies in immuno-oncology.

FAP-4-1BBL is a bispecific antibody exerting 4-1BB-associated T-cell activation only while simultaneously bound to the fibroblast activation protein (FAP) receptor, expressed on the surface of cancer-associated fibroblasts. The trimeric complex formed when FAP-4-1BBL is simultaneously bound to FAP and 4-1BB represents a promising mechanism to achieve tumor-specific 4-1BB stimulation. We integrated in vitro data with mathematical modeling to characterize the pharmacology of FAP-4-1BBL as a function of trimeric complex formation when combined with the T-cell engager cibisatamab.

Vena caval filters remain as a useful tool in patients with deep vein thrombosis and contraindications to anticoagulation. Although they are rarely used in paediatric patients, they have been shown to be safe and effective when used in the inferior vena cava.In this case report, we describe the use of a retrievable vena caval filter in the superior vena cava in an adolescent with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia with extensive thrombosis of the right upper neck veins as a means to reduce the risk of pulmonary embolism.

Geriatric Oncology in Portugal: Where We Are and What Comes Next-A Survey of Healthcare Professionals.

Unlabelled: In keeping with the trend worldwide, in Portugal, more than 60% of newly diagnosed patients with cancer are aged 65 years or older, which makes older adults the most common population seen in an oncology practice. This study's objectives were to assess geriatric oncology practices in Portugal and investigate medical professionals' current needs and perceptions on the treatment of elderly cancer patients.

On the influence of hydrothermal treatment pH on the performance of BiWO as photocatalyst in the glycerol photoreforming.

Solar driven semiconductor-based photoreforming of biomass derivatives, such as glycerol is a sustainable alternative towards green hydrogen evolution concerted with production of chemical feedstocks. In this work, we have investigated the influence of the pH of the hydrothermal treatment on the efficiency of BiWO as photocatalyst in the glycerol photoreforming. BiWO is pointed as a promising material for this application due its adequate band gap and the ability to promote hole transfer directly to glycerol without formation of non-selective OH radicals.

Gestational purple grape juice consumption does not change fetal ductus arteriosus constriction in Wistar rats.

Grape juice consumption may influence the early occurrence of ductal constriction during pregnancy, since the consumption of foods rich in polyphenols can be linked to the premature constriction of the ductus arteriosus. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of purple grape juice consumption during gestation on fetal ductus arteriosus closure, prostaglandin levels, and oxidative stress markers in Wistar rats. We divided 18 pregnant rats into four groups: a control group (C), a single-dose grape juice group (SDGJ), a two-dose grape juice group (TDGJ) of 7 μl/g body weight per day, and an indomethacin group (I).

NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES: A dataset of occurrence and abundance of freshwater fishes in the Neotropics.

The Neotropical region hosts 4225 freshwater fish species, ranking first among the world's most diverse regions for freshwater fishes. Our NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set is the first to produce a large-scale Neotropical freshwater fish inventory, covering the entire Neotropical region from Mexico and the Caribbean in the north to the southern limits in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay. We compiled 185,787 distribution records, with unique georeferenced coordinates, for the 4225 species, represented by occurrence and abundance data.

Anal cancer in older adults: A Young International Society of Geriatric Oncology review paper.

Anal cancer is an uncommon malignancy, however, its incidence has been increasing worldwide, including among older adults. The care of older patients with anal cancer requires a multidisciplinary and comprehensive team approach to ensure improved outcomes and maintenance of quality of life, and the geriatric assessment should be a key component in the evaluation of every older patient with anal cancer. Despite older adults representing a large proportion of patients with anal cancer, they were underrepresented in trials that defined currently accepted standard therapies, including definitive chemoradiotherapy.

The Evolution of Geriatric Oncology and Geriatric Assessment over the Past Decade.

Cancer is predominantly a disease of aging, and older adults represent the majority of cancer diagnoses and deaths. Older adults with cancer differ significantly from younger patients, leading to important distinctions in cancer treatment planning and decision-making. As a consequence, the field of geriatric oncology has blossomed and evolved over recent decades, as the need to bring personalized cancer care to older adults has been increasingly recognized and a focus of study.

The effect of consumption of purple grape juice in the gestational period on oxidative stress parameters in rat foetuses.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of purple grape juice consumption in pregnancy on oxidative stress parameters in rat fetuses. Twenty-four pregnant rats were divided into five groups: control group, indomethacin group (received a single dose of indomethacin in DG20), group grape juice DG14 (received an amount for 14 days/first and second gestational trim), group grape juice DG20 (received a dose throughout the gestational period), group grape juice two doses (received two doses, at morning and afternoon). On the 20th day of pregnancy (DG20), rats were anesthetized, and a cesarean section was performed to obtain the fetuses.
