: Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a severe and potentially life-threatening disease. The most common forms are caused by variants in , resulting in C1-inhibitor (C1-INH) deficiency (HAE-C1-INH). C1-INH is a serine protease inhibitor (SERPIN) that regulates multiple proteases pathways, including the kallikrein-kinin system (KKS) and its complement.

Background: Sensitization to house dust mites (HDMs) is frequent in patients with atopic dermatitis.
Objective: To investigate the efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) with Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus extract in patients with atopic dermatitis sensitized to HDM.
Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, we enrolled 91 patients 3 years or older, with SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) score greater than or equal to 15 and positive skin test result and/or IgE to D pteronyssinus.
Introduction: Prevention of attacks is a major goal in management of patients with hereditary angioedema (HAE). We aimed to investigate the effects of a systematic intervention for HAE patients.
Methods: Thirty-three patients with HAE with C1-inhibitor deficiency, belonging to a single family, participated in a management program coordinated by an allergist/immunologist.
Background: Acquired angioedema due to C1 inhibitor deficiency (AAE-C1-INH) is a very rare disease. In clinical practice, it may be difficult to differentiate AAE-C1-INH from hereditary angioedema due to C1-INH deficiency (HAE-C1-INH). In both conditions, patients are at an increased risk of death from asphyxiation due to upper airway obstruction.

Methods: Patients clinically diagnosed with HAE but without C1-INH deficiency or dysfunction and F12 gene mutation were evaluated. DNA extraction, quantification, and dilution were performed at a concentration of 100 ng/µL, followed by a DNA amplification (PCR) for molecular evaluation of exon 2 of the ANGPT1 gene and exon 9 of the PLG gene for identification of mutations c.

Background: Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially fatal allergic disease or hypersensitivity reaction with variable clinical presentation. Biomarkers in anaphylaxis could be useful to improve diagnosis, to allow endotyping of patients, and to predict risk.
Objective: To investigate the role of serum basal tryptase (sBT) levels in the management of patients with anaphylaxis.
The liver plays a central role in metabolism and produces important hormones. Hepatic estrogen receptors and the release of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) are critical links between liver function and the reproductive system. However, the role of liver in pubertal development is not fully understood.

Data from Nellore animals belonging to farms which participate in the DeltaGen® and Paint® animal breeding programs, were used. The traits used in this study were the occurrence of early pregnancy (EP) and scrotal circumference (SC).

Genomic DNA was extracted from hair follicles collected from the tail of 196 females. Three SNPs were identified in DGAT1 gene by sequencing.

When most of the phenotypic information is from non-genotyped animals, GWAS can be performed using the weighted single-step GBLUP (WssGBLUP) method, which permits to combine all available information, even that of non-genotyped animals. However, it is not clear to what extent phenotypic information from non-genotyped animals increases the power of QTL detection, and whether factors such as the extent of linkage disequilibrium (LD) in the population and weighting SNPs in WssGBLUP affect the importance of using information from non-genotyped animals in GWAS.

A major problem faced with the genetic improvement of reproductive traits is that recording the time for an animal to reach sexual maturity is costly. Another issue is that accurate estimates of breeding values are obtained only a long time after the young bulls have gone through selection.

Mutations of the gene encoding coagulation factor XII have been identified in a subset of patients with this condition. Our aim was to investigate mutations in the F12 gene in patients with HAE with normal C1-INH from Brazil.
