Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas' disease, can infect both phagocytic and non-phagocytic cells. T. cruzi gp82 and gp90 are cell surface proteins belonging to Group II trans-sialidases known to be involved in host cell binding and invasion.

Introduction: The death of a spouse greatly affects the survivor's emotions and may change one's everyday occupations, especially during recent bereavement. Considering the centrality of everyday occupations to occupational therapy practice, this research aimed to understand women's restoration-oriented everyday occupations within the first six months after the death of their spouse.
Methods: This was a qualitative thematic analysis that applied a realistic method and a theoretical approach at the semantic level.
Surface functionalization of silica nanoparticles (SiONPs) has been considered as a promising strategy to develop target-specific nanostructures. However, finding a chemical functionalization that can be used as an active targeting moiety while preserving the nanoparticles colloidal stability in biological fluids is still challenging. We present here a dual surface modification strategy for SiONPs where a zwitterion (ZW) and a biologically active group (BAG) (amino, mercapto or carboxylic functionalities) are simultaneously grafted on the nanoparticles' surface.

Method: A sample of 118 older adults provided data for testing construct validity and internal consistency, and 14 provided data for testing test-retest reliability. Factor analysis with varimax rotation was used to assess construct validity.
Objective: To understand the job function of caregivers of older adults and contribute to the debate on the consolidation of this professional practice.
Methodological Procedures: This is a descriptive, qualitative, and exploratory study. Four focal group sessions were performed in 2011 with 11 elderly companions, formal caregivers of older adults in the Programa Acompanhante de Idosos (Program for Caregivers of Older Adults), Sao Paulo, SP, Southeastern Brazil.

Background: Arginine has been shown to have several immunological and trophic properties in stressful diseases. Its metabolites, nitric oxide (NO) and polyamines, are related to arginine's effects. The authors assessed the effects of citrulline on gut barrier integrity and bacterial translocation (BT) in mice undergoing intestinal obstruction.
Methods: Mice were divided into 3 groups: sham, intestinal obstruction (IO), and citrulline (CIT).
