Canalicular obstructions after monkeypox infection.

We report two cases of lacrimal obstruction after ocular infection with monkeypox virus (MPX) in the 2022 outbreak. One of them was a distal canalicular obstruction and the other was a proximal canalicular obstruction. In the first days of MPX they presented with conjunctivitis and periocular skin vesicles.

Retinal vessel volume reference database derived from volume-rendered optical coherence tomography angiography.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) enables three-dimensional reconstruction of the functional blood vessels in the retina. Therefore, it enables the quantification of 3D retinal vessel parameters such as surface area and vessel volume. In spite of the widespread use of OCTA, no representative volume-rendered vessel volume (VV) data are published to date.

Radiomics-Based Assessment of OCT Angiography Images for Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of machine learning (ML) techniques applied to radiomic features extracted from OCT and OCT angiography (OCTA) images for diabetes mellitus (DM), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and referable DR (R-DR) diagnosis.

Use of Nicergoline as Adjunctive Treatment of Neurotrophic Keratitis in Routine Clinical Practice: A Case Series.

Purpose: To describe the effectiveness and safety of nicergoline in patients with epithelial corneal defect or corneal ulcer due to neurotrophic keratitis (NK).

Methods: A prospective case series review was performed in 14 patients with NK who started treatment with nicergoline as an off-label prescription from January to November 2020. Patients with a epithelial defect or corneal ulcer due to NK were treated with oral nicergoline.

Sterile, recurrent, and bilateral corneal perforation related to primary biliary cirrhosis complicated by secondary Sjögren syndrome and vitamin A deficiency.

Primary biliary cirrhosis is a rare progressive autoimmune liver disease that causes chronic cholestasis. Of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis, 75% develop secondary Sjogren syndrome and could develop vitamin A deficiency. Here, we report the case of a patient with primary biliary cirrhosis who developed a secondary Sjogren syndrome and vitamin A deficiency, which led to severe and unusual eye involvement with multiple and recurrent spontaneous corneal perforations.

Ocular alterations in divers: 2 case reports and literature review.

Scuba diving can be practiced recreationally or professionally. In both modalities the diver can be exposed to risks such as decompression syndrome and thus, the use of a hyperbaric chamber, hyper-oxygenation of the gas cylinder, barotrauma, and immersion in closed circuits. These situations have some phenomena in common, such as the great pressure differences, which can cause a wide range of alterations, including ophthalmological ones.

[Complications associated with the use of soft contact lenses].

Soft contact lenses are a good alternative to the use of glasses for the correction of refractive defects. However, improper use can be associated with complications. Incorrect handling, poor hygiene, or over-use of the lenses can lead to poor tolerance, eye inflammation, and even visions sequelae.
