The wind turbine blades are exposed, during functioning, to the abrasive wear generated by the impact with air-borne sand particles. In this work, samples of a commercial wind turbine blade, made of a multi-layered composite material, are subjected to abrasive wear tests, using an air streamed wearing particles test rig. Following the analysis of the tests' results was found that the only protection against failure of the blade by abrasive damage is the surface layer.

Bright near-infrared-emitting AgS nanocrystals (NCs) are used for in vivo temperature sensing relying on a reversible variation in intensity and photoluminescence lifetime within the physiological temperature range. Here, to gain insights into the luminescence and quenching mechanisms, we investigated the temperature-dependent luminescence of AgS NCs from 300 to 10 K. Interestingly, both emission and lifetime measurements reveal similar and strong thermal quenching from 200 to 300 K, indicating an intrinsic quenching process that limits the photoluminescence quantum yield at room temperature, even for perfectly passivated NCs.

Lysosomal storage diseases are inherited or acquired disorders characterized by dysfunctional lysosomes that lead to intracytoplasmic accumulation of undegraded substrates, causing impaired cellular function and death. Many acquired lysosomal storage diseases are produced by toxic plants, which have indolizidine alkaloids, including swainsonine, that inhibits lysosomal α-mannosidase and Golgi α-mannosidase II. The current experiment assessed whether relating abstract stimuli with familiar pictures by exclusion would produce the formation of a meaningful equivalence class. Ten participants learned conditional discrimination relations with abstract stimuli and established equivalence classes (ABC classes). They then learned DA (D1A1, D2A2, and D3A3) conditional discriminations with written words as D stimuli; two words (D1 and D2) were meaningful stimuli in the participants verbal community ("Dentist" and "Baker"), whereas the third (D3) was a pseudoword ("Tabilu").

A flock of 48 sheep in Argentina grazing on a pasture of hybrid (formerly ) Mulato II ( ×  × ) developed facial dermatitis, severe jaundice, and weakness after brief physical activity.
