Collaborating for impact: a multilevel early childhood obesity prevention initiative.

This article presents Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures, a multilevel initiative in Boston, Massachusetts, which brings major institutions' missions and resources together to address early childhood obesity prevention. Programming is designed to facilitate healthy eating and physical activity in preschool children's home, school, and community environments by engaging parents and early childhood educators in the places where they live, learn, and play. This article describes how established interventions were implemented in a novel setting to engage the parents of children attending Head Start and staff, and presents pilot data from the first 2 years of the initiative.

Effects of an alcohol intervention on drinking among female college students with and without a recent history of sexual violence.

Objective: Alcohol misuse among college students is a significant public health problem that can have negative long-term implications. One important correlate of problem drinking among college female populations is sexual violence. The current study investigated: (1) past year sexual violence and its association with alcohol consumption and related psychosocial variables (stress, coping, and mental health); and (2) whether the impact of an alcohol intervention was different for college women with a history of sexual violence compared to those without such a history.

Trial of the university assistance program for alcohol use among mandated students.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a brief intervention for mandated students in the context of the University Assistance Program, a Student Assistance Program developed and modeled after workplace Employee Assistance Programs.

Method: Participants were 265 (196 males and 69 females) judicially mandated college students enrolled in a large, urban university in the northeast United States. All participants were sanctioned by the university's judicial office for an alcohol- or drug-related violation.

Referring physicians' attitudes toward international interpretation of teleradiology images.

Objective: We evaluated referring physician attitudes toward the international interpretation of radiologic images.

Materials And Methods: A five-question, scenario-based survey describing features of a hypothetic local radiology firm compared with those of its hypothetic overseas counterpart, international radiology, was sent by mail to 350 physicians from a broad range of medical and surgical specialties. One hundred nineteen physicians responded, for a response rate of 34%.

Colleges respond to student binge drinking: reducing student demand or limiting access.

Administrators at 68% of 4-year colleges nationwide (N = 747) responded to a survey concerning the types of programs and policies they used in response to students' heavy drinking. Most schools conducted targeted alcohol education and invested in institutional prevention efforts; half conducted social norms campaigns; a sizeable minority restricted alcohol on campus. Schools that focused on demand reduction were less likely to ban alcohol use.
