Article Synopsis
  • A 30-year-old man in Algeria developed verrucose dermatitis on his face and onychomycosis, following a previous treatment for dermatophytic disease caused by Trichophyton verrucosum, highlighting a potential immune deficiency.
  • Facial lesions and affected nails tested positive for the fungus Hendersonula toruloidea, which responded to amphotericin B treatment on the face, but not the nails.
  • Laboratory tests showed the fungus's morphology matched the lesions, while intratesticular inoculation in guinea pigs produced similar fungal characteristics that lacked pycnidia.

An 18-year-old young man, presents multiple areas of poikilodermia since 1 year of age, and papules like flat warts essentially on the back of his hands and feet, since 10 years of age. The examination of 16 of his closest relatives led us to discover 1 case of poikilodermia and acrokeratosis verruciformis, 1 case of poikilodermia and 3 cases of acrokeratosis veruciformis. Observations on the association of poikilodermia and acrokeratosis verruciformis have already been reported in the literature as well as comparable morphological fact, but without family lesions and without histological examinations.

  • The study also discusses the occurrence and distribution of Blastomycosis in Africa, noting that infected male hamsters did not develop the disease, suggesting challenges in studying the infection in animal models.
