Background And Objectives: Pulp calcification is associated with many factors and triggers, including individual genetic predisposition and orthodontic forces. This study aimed to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms in are associated with a risk of dental pulp calcifications in orthodontic patients.

Materials And Methods: Digital orthopantomography (OPG) and genomic DNA from 132 patients were analyzed in this cross-sectional study.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the link between specific genetic polymorphisms in BMP2, BMP4, SMAD6, and RUNX2 and the occurrence of pulp stones (PS) in a group of 117 participants, divided into those with PS (63) and those without (54).
  • - Genetic testing was performed using saliva samples, and various statistical methods were applied to analyze the data, revealing that the SMAD6 gene polymorphisms, particularly rs2119261, were significantly associated with PS.
  • - In contrast, no significant associations were found between PS risk and the genetic variations in BMP2, BMP4, or RUNX2, highlighting the potential role of SMAD6 mutations in the development of pulp stones.

Aim: To assess the influence of remnants of filling material on hydroxyl ion diffusion from calcium hydroxide (CH) paste, measured by the pH value, in retreated teeth.

Materials And Methods: A total of 120 single-rooted extracted teeth were prepared up to a size 35 hand file and filled. For retreatment, the specimens were divided into four groups ( = 20): ProTaper Universal Retreatment (PUR), PUR with additional instrumentation (PURA), Mtwo Retreatment (MTWR), and MTWR with additional instrumentation (MTWRA).

Objective: To compare the fatigue resistance of different heat-treated reciprocating instruments tested in a dynamic cyclic fatigue model.

Methods: Forty-eight new instruments were inspected under magnification and selected for this study, and then divided as follows (n=12): X1 Blue (MK Life, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil), Pro-R (MK Life), Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany), and Reciproc Blue (VDW). Artificial canals presenting a curvature of 60° angle and 5 mm radius were milled in zirconia.

This study aimed to compare the survival of replanted teeth that followed the 2012 or the 2020 International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) guidelines. Sixty-two permanent replanted teeth were retrospectively assessed (IADT 2012, n = 45; IADT 2020, n = 17). Five years after replantation (from January 2017 to December 2021), clinical and radiographic examinations were performed.

Background: Dental trauma affects especially schoolchildren and adolescents. Educators, the responsible for the first appointment, have a fundamental role in the prognosis of dental avulsion that occurred in this environment.

Aim: To evaluate the educational approaches for assessing knowledge and actions in response to dental avulsion among educators.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the postoperative pain in patients after endodontic treatment using 8.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) compared with other concentrations and 2% chlorhexidine (CHX).

Methods: In this double-blind randomized trial, 180 patients were evaluated who underwent a single session of endodontic treatment under irrigation with 2.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) on bond strength of fiberglass posts in root canals obturated with different endodontic sealers. Seventy-eight mandibular premolars were obturated with three sealers (n=26): Endofill (END), AH Plus (AHP), and Endosequence BC Sealer (EBS). After preparation of the post space, two subgroups were formed according to the cementation of the posts (n=13): with EDC (EDC), and without EDC (control - CON).

Introduction: This study compared the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of different imaging diagnostic protocols, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and digital periapical radiography (DPR), in identifying separated endodontic instruments in filled root canals.

Methods: One hundred eight root canals from 36 mandibular molars were prepared and obturated. Of these, 84 were filled without separated instruments, and 24 were filled with the presence of a separated instrument (stainless steel hand file or reciprocating instrument).

The aim of this study was to analyze the saliva of patients with pulp stones, with sialometric and sialochemical tests. Eighty individuals, aged between18 and 65 years, of both sexes, were investigated. Patients were included in the pulp stone group when radiographic examination was suggestive of pulp stones in at least one permanent tooth, whereas those without this alteration were considered controls.

This study was performed to evaluate the interplay between dental caries, nutritional status, and genetic polymorphisms in TAS1R1 and TAS1R2 (taste receptor, type 1, member 1 and 2) in preschool children and pre-adolescents. We included 525 subjects (306 preschool children and 219 pre-adolescents). Parents/caregivers answered a self-administered questionnaire about their children's systemic health, characteristics, oral hygiene habits, and diet.

Introduction: The aim of this ex vivo study was to analyze the effect of different vehicles combined with agitation methods on the penetration of calcium hydroxide (CH) paste in the dentinal tubules.

Methods: Sixty freshly extracted, single-rooted human premolars were prepared using WaveOne Gold (Dentsply Sirona, York, PA) and randomized into 6 experimental groups (n = 10) according to the vehicle and method of paste agitation as follows: propylene glycol (PG) + Lentulo, PG + Lentulo + ultrasound, PG + Lentulo + sonic, distilled water (DW) + Lentulo, DW + Lentulo + ultrasonic, and DW + Lentulo + sonic. The CH paste was manipulated with sodium fluorescein dye and was inserted to completely fill the root canal.

Background: Chronological skin aging causes the modification of genetic material through enzymes and proteins changes. The process reduces cellular proliferation, along with loss of tissue elasticity, reduced ability to regulate aqueous exchanges, and inefficient tissue replication. Appearance is negatively affected by cumulative changes in coloration, texture, and elasticity over time.

It was investigated the perception of service users in relation to the professional practice of dentists, based on gender differences. The Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCATool) was applied to 900 users of the Public Service in Curitiba, PR, Brazil. Sixty clinics were selected using random sampling, divided between conventional Primary Health Care (PHC) Units and PHC with Family Health System Units.

Background: The gerontoism, a neologism adopted here, is a form of discrimination regarding age and can occur in rational, emotional, and behavioral contexts, and could be influenced by many factors. This study aimed to identify if the social support and the family functionality interfere in the self-perception of gerontoism.

Methods: Participants were 376 elderly in good physical and mental condition.

Objectives: To compare two different models of public oral health in primary care services, a so-called family health strategy (FHS), as opposed to non-FHS services designated as 'conventional' healthcare (CHC), regarding the presence and extent of the attributes of 'good' primary healthcare (PHC). The null hypothesis of this study is that the attributes do not differ between the FHS and CHC.

Design: Cross-sectional.

The aim of this study was to compare two irrigation techniques and four devices for endodontic sealer placement into the dentinal tubules. Ninety-nine single-rooted human teeth were instrumented and allocated to either the control (CO) (n=11) or experimental groups according to the irrigation method: syringe and NaveTip needle (NT) (n=44), and EndoActivator (EA) (n=44). These groups were subdivided according to sealer placement into K-File (KF), lentulo spiral (LS), Easy Clean (EC), and EndoActivator (EA) subgroups.
