Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates sleep apnea symptoms in Treacher Collins Syndrome (TCS) patients, focusing on airway obstruction in adolescents and adults.
  • CBCT exams were used to analyze various airway volumes and dimensions, comparing TCS patients to a nonsyndromic control group.
  • While adults with TCS showed reduced airway size, their dimensions were similar to control adults; however, adolescents with TCS had significantly smaller airway volumes, indicating potential for further growth.

The main purpose was to assess and compare nasal cavity (NC) volumes among adults with unilateral (UCLP) and bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP) and in noncleft controls (CON), by means of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) three-dimensional reconstructions. Forty-five scans of individuals with class III skeletal pattern, matched by age, were gathered in 3 groups: UCLP (n = 15), BCLP (n = 15) and (CON) (n = 15). The NC volume was assessed three-dimensionally, using Dolphin 11.

Objectives: The purpose of this "two-arm parallel" trial was to compare the orthopedic, dental, and alveolar bone plate changes of slow (SME) and rapid (RME) maxillary expansions in patients with complete bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP).

Material And Methods: Forty-six patients with BCLP and maxillary arch constriction in the late mixed dentition were randomly and equally allocated into two groups. Computer-generated randomization was used.
