A Data-Driven Approach to Allocating Personal Protective Equipment During the COVID-19 Pandemic in King County, Washington.

The COVID-19 pandemic created an extraordinarily high demand for personal protective equipment (PPE). Acute need and supply chain disruptions made hospitals, emergency medical services, and other critical care agencies particularly vulnerable to PPE shortages. In March 2020, King County, Washington, developed computational tools, operating procedures, and data visualizations to fulfill its responsibilities to prioritize, allocate, and distribute scarce PPE equitably and efficiently during a public health emergency.

Assessing the Impact of Electronic Health Record Interventions on Hepatitis B Screening and Vaccination.

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major health disparity between Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders compared with other racial/ethnic groups in the U.S.

Aims: Our aims were to determine the effectiveness of an electronic health record (EHR) data-driven clinical intervention to improve HBV screening and vaccination rates at a community health center primarily serving Asian American patients.

Background: Health care providers play a significant role in large scale health emergency planning, detection, response, recovery and communication with the public. The effectiveness of health care providers in emergency preparedness and response roles depends, in part, on public health agencies communicating information in a way that maximizes the likelihood that the message is delivered, received, deemed credible and, when appropriate, acted on. However, during an emergency, health care providers can become inundated with alerts and advisories through numerous national, state, local and professional communication channels.
