Introduction: Granulocyte and monocyte adsorption apheresis (GMA) is usually performed weekly for refractory skin diseases, such as generalized pustular psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Methods: Four patients with PsA who were refractory to previous treatments were enrolled. They received five or ten sessions of GMA.

Pathogenic variants in MPO, which encodes the myeloperoxidase, were reported as causative genetic defects in several cases of generalised pustular psoriasis (GPP) in addition to patients with myeloperoxidase deficiency in 2020. However, which clinical subtypes of GPP patients have pathogenic variants in MPO remains largely undetermined, and elucidating this is clinically important. The present report outlines a mild case of GPP with a rare missense heterozygous variant, c.

Itching and skin pain are bothersome symptoms of psoriasis, but evidence is limited regarding the treatment effectiveness on these symptoms in daily clinical settings. We assessed the changes in the levels of itching and skin pain after brodalumab treatment in Japanese patients with psoriasis using patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Patients with psoriasis who have inadequate response to existing treatments were enrolled in the single-arm, open-label, multicenter, prospective ProLOGUE study and received brodalumab 210 mg subcutaneously in daily clinical practice.

Article Synopsis
  • Psoriasis negatively affects patients' quality of life and is linked to sleep issues, yet there's limited research on how interleukin-17 blockage therapies like brodalumab influence sleep.
  • A study involving 73 Japanese patients with plaque psoriasis assessed the effectiveness of brodalumab by measuring sleep problems using the Medical Outcomes Study Sleep Scale at various points during treatment.
  • Results showed no significant improvement in overall sleep issues after 12 weeks of brodalumab treatment, highlighting the need for more focus on sleep problems in psoriasis management.

The present study compared trends in antimicrobial resistance patterns in pathogens isolated from skin and soft-tissue infections (SSTIs) in Japan with those of a nationwide survey conducted in 2013. Three organisms that caused most of the SSTIs were collected from 12 dermatology departments in medical centers and 12 dermatology clinics across Japan between April 2019 and August 2020. A total of 390 strains, including 267 Staphylococcus aureus, 109 coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), and 14 Streptococcus pyogenes strains were submitted to a central laboratory for antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

  • * A study assessed the impact of brodalumab on HRQoL in Japanese psoriasis patients, showing significant improvements in quality of life measures after 48 weeks of treatment.
  • * Despite these improvements, some patients still reported persistent itching, which may hinder complete HRQoL recovery, highlighting a gap even with effective treatment.

Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a rare, severe neutrophilic skin disease characterized by sudden widespread eruption of sterile pustules with or without systemic symptoms. GPP may be life threatening in cases with severe complications such as cardiovascular failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and serious infections. Impetigo herpetiformis (IH) is a GPP that is induced and exacerbated by pregnancy and occurs most frequently during the last trimester.

  • * In the U.S., apheresis mainly utilizes centrifugal separation, while Japan prefers a membrane separation method, complicating the application of ASFA guidelines in Japanese practice due to differing disease targets and treatment approaches.
  • * A group of specialists in various medical fields collaborated to create a comprehensive guideline for apheresis in Japan, formatted as a user-friendly worksheet to assist medical professionals with the therapy, and emphasizing the need for regular updates to keep pace with advancing medical

  • Epidermal nevus syndrome (ENS) is a congenital disorder marked by widespread skin lesions and issues affecting the central nervous and skeletal systems.
  • Garcia-Hafner-Happle syndrome, a subtype of ENS, features soft, velvety skin lesions and can lead to neurological problems like seizures and intellectual disabilities.
  • The text presents a case study of a 9-year-old Japanese boy with this syndrome, highlighting his additional conditions like dwarfism and atopic dermatitis, along with findings from exams and genetic analysis related to his condition.

Onychomycosis with longitudinal spikes in the nail plate has been reported to be refractory to oral drugs as with dermatophytoma. We evaluated the efficacy of 10% efinaconazole solution in the treatment of onychomycosis with longitudinal spikes. Of the 223 subjects who were enrolled in a previous study, a post-hoc analysis of 82 subjects with longitudinal spikes was performed in this study.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of benign trichilemmal cysts and proliferating trichilemmal tumours.

Methods: Nineteen histologically confirmed cutaneous lesions with trichilemmal keratinisation (12 trichilemmal cysts and seven proliferating trichilemmal tumours) were enrolled. Among them, 10 lesions (six trichilemmal cysts and four proliferating trichilemmal tumours) were examined by computed tomography, while 13 lesions (eight trichilemmal cysts and five proliferating trichilemmal tumours) were examined by magnetic resonance imaging.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by peripheral circulatory disturbance and fibrosis in skin and visceral organs. We recently demonstrated that α2-antiplasmin (α2AP) is elevated in SSc dermal fibroblasts and SSc model mice, and is associated with fibrosis progression and vascular dysfunction. In the present study, we predicted that α2AP could be a target of microRNA-30c (miR-30c) using TargetScan online database, and investigated the effect of miR-30c on the pathogenesis of SSc using a bleomycin-induced SSc model mice.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings of poroma and porocarcinoma.

Methods: Six patients (3 male, 3 female; age range, 40-84 years; mean age, 61 years) with histologically confirmed skin appendage tumors with apocrine and eccrine differentiation (2 poromas and 4 porocarcinomas) were enrolled. All patients underwent preoperative MR imaging and the MR images were retrospectively reviewed.

Vascular anomalies comprise a heterogeneous group of disorders caused by abnormal proliferation or development of vascular and/or lymphatic vessels. Vascular anomalies present with various symptoms and complications, but no standardized methods evaluate their severity, and to measure treatment outcomes is difficult. To assess the responsiveness of measurement scores for evaluating vascular anomaly skin lesions, we conducted a validation study to compare these measurement scores with patients' objective data.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate imaging findings of cutaneous angiosarcoma (cAS) of the scalp compared with those of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC).

Methods: This study included 15 patients with primary cAS and 10 with primary cSCC of the scalp. Seven patients with cAS and eight with cSCC underwent magnetic resonance imaging, and 11 patients with cAS and eight with cSCC underwent F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging.
