Use of dairy industry side-stream lactose for tablet manufacturing - proof of concept study.

During recent years there have been shortages of certain drugs due to problems in raw material supply. These are often related to active ingredients but could also affect excipients. Lactose is one of the most used excipients in tableting and comes in two anomeric and several solid-state forms.

Influence of long term nitrogen limitation on lipid, protein and pigment production of in photoheterotrophic cultures.

Nitrogen limitation is considered a good strategy for enhancement of algal lipid production while conversely N repletion has been shown to result in biomass rich in proteins. In this study, the influence of long-term N limitation on fatty acid (FA), protein, chlorophyll , and carotenoid concentrations was studied in N limited cultures. Biomass composition was analyzed from three-time points from N starved late stationary phase cultures, exposed to three different initial N concentrations in the growth medium.

Culturing of Selenastrum on diluted composting fluids; conversion of waste to valuable algal biomass in presence of bacteria.

Growth and fatty acid production of microalga Selenastrum sp. with associated bacteria was studied in lab-scale experiments in three composting leachate liquids. Nutrient reduction in cultures was measured at different initial substrate strengths.
