Legionnaires' disease is an acute bacterial pneumonia caused by Legionella pneumophila and related subtypes. In endemic areas legionnaires' disease accounts for between 2% and 15% of community-acquired pneumonias in adults admitted to hospital. The diagnosis of this disease may be difficult and therefore a high index of suspicion should exist.

Two patients admitted to the medical intensive care unit with subarachnoid haemorrhage, one with the provisional diagnosis of 'sick sinus syndrome' the other as having an acute myocardial infarction complicated by ventricular tachycardia, are described and the arrhythmias associated with this condition are reviewed.

A case of primary liposarcoma of the right atrium is presented. Liposarcomas of the heart are extremely uncommon, only 3 previous cases having been reported in the English-language literature. The tumour must be differentiated from other polypoid cardiac tumours, particularly cardiac myxomas.
