Although Medical Physics educators have historically contributed to the education of the non-physics healthcare professions, their role was not studied in a systematic manner. In 2009, EFOMP set up a group to research the issue. In their first paper, the group carried out an extensive literature review regarding physics teaching for the non-physics healthcare professions.

MCNP was applied with two different humanoid phantoms in input, ORNL and voxel models, which represent human body in mathematical way. Good agreement between both phantoms, as well as, between MCNP and planning system were found.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are now routinely treated by radiopeptide targeted therapy using somatostatin receptor-binding peptides such as Y- and Lu-DOTATOC. The objective of this work was to develop a biokinetics model of Y labelled DOTATOC, which is applied in the therapy of NETs to estimate doses in kidney and tumor.
Methods: A multi-compartment model described by two sets of differential equations, one set for the actual 30-min infusion and the other set for the post-infusion period was developed and activities were measured by liquid scintillation counting in blood (compartment 1) and the urine (compartment 3).
Differentiated thyroid cancers (DTCs) derive from thyroid follicular cells and include papillary and follicular cancers. In patients with DTCs, the initial treatment includes thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine (131-I) therapy. The objective of this study was to examine whether the intensity of DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) of DTC patients depends on the amount of 131-I retained in the selected regions of interest (thyroid and abdominal region) as well as in the whole-body 72 hours after therapy.
