Patients with severe burns are at high risk of thermoregulatory failure. Yet, there is a lack of consensus regarding the optimum approach to temperature dysregulation in patients with severe burns. Intravascular temperature management catheters may offer a superior method of temperature control, but robust data are lacking.

Background: The study goal was to develop and test the effectiveness of a brief online education and support program for female infertility patients.

Methods: A randomized-controlled trial was conducted. Using a Solomon-four group design, 190 female patients were recruited from three US fertility centers and were randomized into two experimental and two no-treatment control groups.

Purpose: Subretinal triamcinolone acetonide (TCA) might be a useful adjuvant in the treatment of subretinal neovascularization. The purpose of this study was to test the toxicity of subretinal TCA in the rabbit eye.

Methods: Sixteen New Zealand rabbits were vitrectomized and injected with either decanted TCA solution or vehicle.

Purpose: To test the toxicity of intravitreal injections of benzyl alcohol.

Methods: Nine New Zealand rabbits were injected with either a control or a test article at elevating concentrations. The test article was benzyl alcohol calculated to give final injected concentrations of 0.

Revealing possible clinical scenarios to potential anonymous donors for their donated oocytes appears to uncover ambivalence in the majority of prospective candidates about their donation and unwillingness in some to proceed. Full disclosure to a prospective donor candidate of the program's policies for directives of donated oocytes and embryo management emphasizes the importance of the informed consent process and how it may affect the decision to donate.

Objective: We previously reported a long-lasting crystalline lipid pro-drug of cyclic cidofovir, hexadecyloxypropyl-cyclic-cidofovir (HDP-cCDV), to treat experimental retinitis in rabbit eyes. With HDP-cCDV there was a longer intraocular therapeutic effect than with cidofovir (CDV) and no toxicity with 100 microg/eye. It has been known that CDV and related analogues lower intraocular pressure (IOP) after local use, and it is also accepted that the guinea pig is a better model to study this toxicity before human clinical trials.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficiency of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) vectors for gene delivery into the mammalian retina.

Methods: A first-generation FIV vector was constructed and administered into rabbit eyes at two different concentrations by intravitreal or subretinal routes. A second-generation FIV vector was also constructed and administered subretinally into both rabbit and rat eyes at the same concentration.

Objective: To assess post-donation psychological status of a large sample of professionally recruited, paid anonymous donors and to determine whether there were any differences between those who were willing to donate again and those who were not.

Design: Cross-sectional survey.

Setting: Healthy donors who were recruited by two private groups.
