The purpose of this study was to evaluate host response and soft-tissue regeneration after poly(lactic acid) (PLA) mesh implantation in a rat model, in comparison with light-weight polypropylene (PPL) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) meshes. Full-thickness abdominal wall defects were created in 45 Wistar rats and reconstructed with 15 PLA(94), 15 PPL and 15 PGA meshes. Animals were killed on days 7, 30 and 90 to evaluate the presence of adhesions and changes in tensile strength of the implants.

Arterial wall compliance (C) and distensibility coefficient (DC) are key factors of pathologic physiology, especially in arteries less than 2 mm in diameter. The aim of this study was to design an experimental model allowing comparative measurement of C and DC during pharmacologically induced vasodilation on small-diameter arteries. Methods: Eighteen New Zealand white rabbits had initial stent deployment (3x8 mm Multilink) at 110% of the pre-stenting abdominal aortic diameter. Group A (n=10) had no postdeployment stent expansion and group B (n=8) had 30% overdilation of the stent.

Purpose: Spontaneous blood echogenicity in vein ultrasound images may be a marker for an increased erythrocyte aggregability, but a reliable quantitative evaluation method is a prerequisite for its use in clinical studies. We compared a simple scoring system of blood echogenicity intensity and pattern, with automatic image analysis.

Material And Methods: 157 femoral and popliteal vein digitized ultrasound sequences were reviewed by two independent observers who chose an image, delimited an area of interest (ROI), and graded blood echogenicity intensity and pattern, using a four class score.

Objective: The study of induced circulatory changes requires simultaneous assessment of multiple regional circulations because of interactions and compensatory mechanisms. Positive end expiratory pressure mechanical ventilation (PEEP) is known to cause marked, and potentially deleterious, cardiovascular changes.
