Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether F18-choline (FCH) PET/CT can effectively replace Tc99m-sestaMIBI (MIBI) SPECT/CT for preoperative imaging of parathyroid adenomas in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT).
  • It involves a randomized trial across multiple centers in France, enrolling adults eligible for surgery from November 2019 to May 2022, excluding those with prior parathyroid surgery or certain genetic conditions.
  • The primary goal is to compare the success rates of minimally invasive parathyroidectomy guided by these imaging techniques, focusing on patients achieving normal calcium levels one month after surgery.

Introduction: Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is a common endocrine disorder caused by an autonomous overproduction of parathyroid hormone (PTH) by a parathyroid gland. Over the last decade, F-choline (FCH) PET has emerged as a highly performant imaging technique for guiding parathyroidectomy. As cure is the goal of surgery, the main aims of this study were to summarize patient-based sensitivity, positive predictive value (PPV), and cure rate of FCH PET guided surgery in the surgical management of pHPT.

Objective: To evaluate the malignancy rate of focal thyroid incidentaloma (fTI) in a population of patients undergoing a 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG PET-CT) for a non-thyroid purpose.

Design: We conducted a prospective cohort study from January 2013 to November 2014. All consecutive patients referred for a FDG PET-CT were prospectively screened.

Purpose: In-111 pentetreotide (Octreotide) is highly sensitive for detecting gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and their metastases. However, a lack of landmarks makes it difficult to localize them anatomically. To overcome this difficulty, the authors simultaneously obtained Octreotide and bone tomoscintigrams, in addition to standard planar images.
