Article Synopsis
  • Despite strict measures to control COVID-19, Sweden faced a severe outbreak as the virus spread undetected, with early cases identified just before community transmission began.
  • Researchers analyzed nearly 2,000 respiratory samples and found clades 20A, 20B, and 20C were introduced mainly from Italy and Austria, with clade 20C eventually dominating the outbreak in Sweden.
  • The study highlights the importance of early detection and large-scale diagnostics to better prepare for future pandemics, as the delayed response to community transmission contributed to the outbreak's severity.

Endothelial injury makes the vessel wall vulnerable to cardiovascular diseases. Injured endothelium regenerates by collective sheet migration, that is, the endothelial cells coordinate their motion and regrow as a sheet of cells with retained cell-cell contacts into the wounded area. Leukocytes appear to be involved in endothelial repair in vivo; however, little is known about their identity and role in the reparative sheet migration process.
