BackgroundVancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) are increasing in Denmark and Europe. Linezolid and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (LVRE) are of concern, as treatment options are limited. Vancomycin-variable enterococci (VVE) harbour the gene complex but are phenotypically vancomycin-susceptible.

Incidence of heart valve disease in women treated with the ergot-derived dopamine agonist bromocriptine.

Background: Ergot-derived dopamine agonists are thought to induce fibrotic changes in cardiac valve leaflets. We sought to determine the incidence of heart valve disease in women treated with bromocriptine compared with age and sex matched controls from the background population.

Methods: In nationwide Danish registries we identified female patients treated with bromocriptine in the period 1995-2018.

Initiation of domiciliary care and nursing home admission following first hospitalization for heart failure, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or cancer.

Background: Patients with chronic diseases are at higher risk of requiring domiciliary and nursing home care, but how different chronic diseases compare in terms of risk is not known. We examined initiation of domiciliary care and nursing home admission among patients with heart failure (HF), stroke, COPD and cancer.

Methods: Patients with a first-time hospitalization for HF, stroke, COPD or cancer from 2008-2016 were identified.

Surveillance of vancomycin-resistant enterococci reveals shift in dominating clones and national spread of a vancomycin-variable ST1421-CT1134 clone, Denmark, 2015 to March 2019.

We describe clonal shifts in isolates from clinical samples obtained from patients in Denmark from 2015 to the first quarter (Q1) of 2019. During Q1 2019, the vancomycin-variable enterococci (VVE) ST1421-CT1134 became the most dominant clone and has spread to all five regions in Denmark. Among 174 isolates with or vanA/ genes in Q1 2019, 44% belonged to this type.

Gender differences in biologic treatment outcomes-a study of 1750 patients with psoriatic arthritis using Danish Health Care Registers.

Objective: We aimed to investigate gender differences in disease manifestations, patient-reported outcomes, comorbidities and treatment effectiveness among patients with PsA treated with their first TNFα inhibitor (TNFI).

Methods: In this observational cohort study, the DANBIO register provided prospectively collected data on PsA patients who initiated their first TNFI in 2000-15. Comorbidity information was achieved from the Danish Nationwide Patient Register.

[Retroperitoneal benign cyst with osseous metaplasia as the cause of abdominal pain].

A 27-year-old female patient with no previous medical history, presented a computed tomography displaying a calcified retroperitoneal cyst. The patient had experienced occasional abdominal pain in her right side. The tumour was found in the retroperitoneum, was non-adherent to neighbouring organs and was excised laparoscopically without postoperative complications.

[Botulism in an infant].

We describe a case of botulism in a 4.5 month-old girl with complete recovery after intravenous administration of botulism immune globulin. The girl was admitted for 19 days during which supplementary nasogastric feeding was necessary.
