Femoral Artery Leiomyosarcoma: Case Report and Literature Review.

Background: Vascular leiomyosarcoma is a rare type of malignant tumor which arises from the smooth muscle tissue of blood vessel walls; it involves veins five times more frequently than arteries. There are only a few cases published in the literature and consequently there is limited experience regarding treatment and prognosis.

Methods: A 66-year-old woman presented with left lower limb swelling and a left inguinal mass.

Sorafenib in a patient with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and serious impairment of left ventricular function: a case report.

Introduction: sorafenib, a tyrosine-kinase inhibitor, is widely used in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Drug-related toxicities are generally mild but sorafenib, as other similar agents, may induce elevation of systemic arterial blood pressure levels in relation to an interaction with cardiovascular system probably mediated by HIF pathway. This side effect may be particularly critical for patients with underlying serious heart disease as it can induce acute heart failure, a life-threatening condition, and usually such patients are excluded from active treatment with tyrosine-kinase inhibitors.

Fulvestrant treatment is associated with cholesterol plasma level reduction in hormone-receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer patients.

Background: Fulvestrant is a pure anti-estrogen hormoal agent formally lacking any estrogen-agonist activity. We analyze the effect(s) of fulvestrant treatment on estrogen target systems in hormoe-sensitive advanced breast cancer patients.

Results: Patients received a median of five fulvestrant injections (range 3-19).

Optimal detection of sentinel lymph node metastases by intraoperative radioactive threshold and molecular analysis in patients with melanoma.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to optimize a protocol for radioguided biopsy of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) in patients with melanoma. The protocol was based on a combination of ex vivo counting of the nodes detected intraoperatively and analysis of the harvested nodes by hematoxylin and eosin staining plus immunohistochemistry (conventional histopathology [PATH]) and by molecular biology (reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction [RT-PCR]).

Methods: A total of 124 patients with primary clinical stage I-II (according to the American Joint Committee on Cancer) cutaneous melanoma underwent successful radioguided SLN biopsy.

Weekly docetaxel/paclitaxel in pretreated metastatic breast cancer.

The purpose of our study was to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of weekly docetaxel/paclitaxel in pretreated advanced breast cancer patients. Twenty-six patients with metastatic breast cancer were included in this study. Three different schedules of treatment were administered.
