Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPSs) are childhood diseases caused by inherited deficiencies in glycosaminoglycan degradation. Most MPSs involve neurodegeneration, which to date is untreatable. Currently, most therapeutic strategies aim at correcting the primary genetic defect.

This bacterial strain, which has not previously been submitted for chemical profiling, was subjected to whole genome sequencing, which aided in the discovery and elucidation of a prodigiosin biosynthetic gene cluster that was predicted by the bioinformatic tool KEGG BlastKoala.
