Introduction: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a common contaminant widely used in many industrial sectors. Because of its wide use and dispersion, it can be accumulated in living human bodies through both oral assumption and nondietary routes. BPA exhibits hormone-like properties, falling under the class of endocrine disruptors; therefore, it can alter relevant physiological functions.

Article Synopsis
  • Bisphenols and phthalates impact androgen receptor signaling, which influences KLK3 secretion, suggesting environmental factors may affect this process.
  • A study measured serum KLK3 levels in healthy women from high and low environmental impact areas, finding higher levels in the high impact group, especially during ovulation.
  • Significant differences in KLK3 levels corresponded with lower progesterone levels in the high impact group during the luteal phase, indicating a potential link between environmental pollution and female reproductive health.

Male infertility and the poor quality of sperm seem to be influenced by oxidative stress. In particular, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) mainly produced by morphologically altered spermatozoa affect sperm motility, morphology, and integrity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Myo-Inositol (Myo-Ins) on a number of parameters such as viscosity and total and progressive motility of spermatozoa, in order to better validate its possible practical application in vitro, in order to improve the capacitation protocols commonly used in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).
