Fluoxetine is an antidepressant used to treat several conditions including postpartum depression. This disease causes cognitive, emotional, behavioral and physical changes, negatively affecting the mother, child and family life. However, fluoxetine is excreted in breast milk, causing short and long-term effects on children who were exposed to the drug during lactation, so studies that seek to uncover the consequences of these effects are needed.

Tributyltin (TBT) is an environmental contaminant present on all continents, including Antarctica, with a potent biocidal action. Its use began to be intensified during the 1960s. It was effectively banned in 2003 but remains in the environment to this day due to several factors that increase its half-life and its misuse despite the bans.

Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a rare, but aggressive, carcinoma derived from follicular cells. While conventional treatments may improve patients' survival, the lethality remains high. Therefore, there is an urgent need for more effective ATC treatments.

We aimed to report the experience in managing action research on hepatitis C investigation in the prison community in the Triângulo Mineiro region, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The proposal was developed from March 2019 to March 2020, reaching 240 people to contain the spread of the disease through a survey, testing, and monitoring of positive cases. We adopted intersectoral action with articulation between Universities, Medical Society, Teaching Hospital, and State Secretariat for Justice and Public Security.

Tributyltin (TBT) is an endocrine disruptor used as a biocide in nautical paints. Even though many TBT effects in marine species are known, data in mammals are scarce, especially regarding the thyroid gland. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of a subchronic exposure to TBT on thyroid oxidative stress of female Wistar rats.

Tributyltin (TBT) is an endocrine disruptor chemical (EDC) capable of altering the proper function of the hypothalamus-pituitary thyroid (HPT) axis. This study aimed to evaluate the subacute effects of TBT on the HPT axis of male and female rats. A dose of 100 ng/kg/day TBT was used in both sexes over a 15-day period, and the morphophysiology and gene expression of the HPT axis were assessed.

It is necessary to know the resistance profile of to better control diabetic foot ulcer infections, to establish rational antibiotic therapy, and to avoid the development of resistant strains. This cross-sectional study evaluated the clinical parameters, virulence, and antimicrobial resistance profiles of in patients with diabetic foot disease admitted to a public hospital. strains were identified in patients with diabetes with amputation indication.

Tannin-based coagulants (TBCs) have the potential to be used to harvest microalgae cultivated at wastewater treatment plants. Their use would address the circular economy associated with the production of low-toxicity biomass and supernatant. Studies in this field are still scarce, and substantial gaps exist in the definitions of the flocculation process parameters.

Forestier disease is a condition characterized by calcification and ossification of ligaments and entheses particularly affecting axial skeleton. Diagnosis is difficult and mandates a high suspicion level, but unexpensive and accessible examinations like a simple radiography might provide useful diagnostic clues in these challenging clinical scenarios and improve clinical assistance.

Pyelocaliceal obstruction is a diagnostic challenge, and it is important to identify the obstruction cause. Some patients present extra-renal compressive masses that need further imagiologic investigation and a biopsy, to establish the diagnosis.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is responsible for high morbidity and mortality rates. Citral has been studied in the pharmaceutical industry and has shown antimicrobial activity. This study aimed to analyze the antimicrobial activity of citral in inhibiting biofilm formation and modulating virulence genes, with the ultimate goal of finding a strategy for treating infections caused by MRSA strains.

Tuberculous pericarditis is a rare extra-pulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis observed mainly in developed countries. It usually presents with concomitant tuberculous infection at a different site and, due to the lack of clinical specificity, diagnosis can be difficult. Thus, a diagnostic delay is frequent, entailing increased morbidity and mortality.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis poses a diagnostic dilemma due to the absence of specific clinical and laboratory findings, especially in adults. Despite greater recognition of the disease, secondary idiopathic forms are still reported.

Postobstructive pneumonia is a pulmonary infiltrate distal to a bronchial obstruction. It presents a diagnostic challenge, and full attention should be on recognition of this entity, identify, and treating the obstructive lesion and secondary infection. In adults, malignancy is the main cause; however, others etiologies must be investigated.

Ouabain is a steroid described as a compound extracted from plants that is capable of binding to Na , K -ATPase, inhibiting ion transport and triggering cell signaling pathways. Due to its positive ionotropic effect, ouabain was used for more than 200 years for the treatment of cardiac dysfunctions. Numerous antitumor effects of ouabain have been described so far; however, its role on thyroid cancer is still poorly understood.

Pleural involvement in Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) is well documented, but primary pleural lymphomas are extremely rare, occurring mostly in immunosuppressed patients or associated with chronic pleural inflammation. Nevertheless, the pathogenesis and therapeutic approaches to counteract primary pleural lymphomas are still matter of debate. The authors present the clinical case of an 81-year-old female with respiratory and constitutional symptoms.

All vertebrates have baroreflexes that provide fast regulation of arterial blood pressure (P) to maintain adequate tissue perfusion and avoid vascular lesions from excessive pressures. The baroreflex is a negative feedback loop, where altered P results in reciprocal changes in heart rate (f) and systemic vascular conductance to restore pressure. In terrestrial environments, gravity usually leads to blood pooling in the lower body reducing venous return, cardiac filling, cardiac output and P.

The most commonly used technique to study the barostatic regulation of blood pressure in ectothermic vertebrates consists of determining the heart rate response to pharmacological manipulations of blood pressure, the so-called "Oxford method." Although well established, the Oxford method has some important limitations, such as induction of hypervolemia in small animals and undesired effects of vasoactive drugs on central and peripheral baroreflex components. As an alternative, the sequence method, which consists in the computerized evaluation of naturally-occurring baroreflex adjustments of heart rate without the need for pharmacological administrations, was developed to study baroreflexes.

Unlabelled: The elimination of the aetiological factors causing liver injury is an important cornerstone in preventing progression and increasing survival in patients with cirrhosis. The authors present the case of a 63-year-old woman with a history of long-term alcohol abuse and consequent liver cirrhosis. Over the years, the patient presented progressive deterioration with severe malnutrition and had multiple hospital admissions due to decompensated cirrhosis, including refractory ascites, variceal bleeding and an extensive portal vein thrombosis (PVT).

Unlabelled: Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding associated with cirrhosis. The first-line treatment is endoscopic therapy with argon plasma coagulation (APC). There is a high recurrence rate, but some evidence suggests that thalidomide could play an important role in controlling refractory anaemia due to GAVE.

Aspiration of barium sulfate is possible during radiographic contrast procedures and is potentially life-threatening in severe cases. In patients with dysphagia or suspected tracheoesophageal fistula, barium compounds may be used, considering lateral projection fluoroscopy of the pharyngeal phase of swallowing, but iso-osmotic agents should also be considered.

Undergraduate students typically cope with various changes in their lives and experience many stressors associated with academic issues. Distress can make them more vulnerable to particular behavioral patterns in order to cope with negative affect. The association of problematic gambling with particular emotion regulation characteristics-some of which are developmentally dependent-becomes a recent focus of research with clinical and preventive implications.
