Introduction: In 2017, more than 1,200 opioid-related deaths were reported in Virginia, with slightly fewer in 2018, at 1,193 deaths. The current opioid crisis has placed a strain on an already limited number of mental health (MH) inpatient beds. The industry standard for assessment and treatment of opioid withdrawal symptoms, in the inpatient setting, is the Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS), and yet some units continue to utilize the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol-Revised (CIWA-Ar) for this population.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: Cancer is a challenging disease to diagnose and treat, and oftentimes even with the best medical intervention, it spreads and is deemed incurable, requiring a shift from cure to end-of-life care. This study used a spirituality measure and the PATS© storytelling intervention developed by the principal investigator to better understand the experience of being diagnosed with cancer and being told no further curative treatments are warranted.
Purpose: The purpose of this exploratory study was to implement a storytelling approach to explore the experience of living with terminal cancer.
Lower limb and lower back injuries are prevalent within the New Zealand (NZ) Army: independently collected data shows these to be most prevalent, with on average 10% of military personnel affected by such an injury at any time. To improve the quality and appropriateness of footwear, it is essential that normative foot anthropometric data is collected from NZ Army personnel. NZ Army personnel (n = 807) were included in this study; data on foot length, circumference, width, and arch heights were collected.

The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of addressing this problem by orthotic issue on the basis of a novel screening protocol.
