Cephalostatins and ritterazines represent fascinating classes of dimeric marine derived steroidal alkaloids with unique chemical structures and promising biological activities. Originally isolated from marine tube worms and the tunicate Ritterella tokioka collected off the coast of Japan, cephalostatins and ritterazines display potent anticancer effects by inducing apoptosis, disrupting cell cycle progression, and targeting multiple molecular pathways. This review covers the chemistry and bioactivities of 45 cephalostatins and ritterazines from 1988 to 2024, highlighting their complex structures and medicinal contributions.

The genus Eremophila, despite comprising more than 250 species, has scarce literature studies that could be traced concerning the chemical profile and bioactivity of The current study targets the investigation of the and anti-oxidant, anti-hyperglycemic, and hepatoprotective potential of the polyphenol-rich leaf extract of (EP). EP showed promising total anti-oxidant capacity with IC values of 106 and 114 μg/mL in 2,2'-azinobis [3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid]-diammonium salt (ABTS) and diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assays, respectively, with total anti-oxidant capacities of 331, 245, and 1767 μmol/g in ABTS, DPPH, and ferric reducing anti-oxidant power assays, respectively. In HepG2 cells, pre-treated with CCl, a dose of 100 μg/mL EP ameliorated the reduced superoxide dismutase and glutathione levels and total anti-oxidant capacity with values of 312.

Brown algae comprise up to 2000 species with wide dissemination in temperate zones. A comprehensive untargeted metabolic profiling guided by molecular networking of three uninvestigated Red-Sea-derived brown algae, namely , , and , led to the identification of over 115 metabolites categorized as glycerolipids, fatty acids, sterol lipids, sphingolipids, and phospholipids. Pachira glabra is a medium sized tree that is famous for its delicious edible seeds and leaves. Phytochemical investigation of Pachira glabra leaf alcohol extract led to the isolation of a new γ-pyrone glycoside, 7-hydroxy maltol-3-O-β-d-glucoside (HMGlu). In vivo assessment of the gastro-protective activity of HMGlu demonstrated superior gastro-protection at a dose of 100 mg kg-1, close to the value triggered by the standard reference omeprazole drug (evidenced by morphological and histopathological examinations).
