Abdominal rectus diastasis (RD) is characterized by thinning and widening of the linea alba, combined with laxity of the ventral abdominal musculature. This condition is associated with bulging of abdominal content, and it is mostly acquired during pregnancy or obesity. Symptoms include pain and discomfort in the abdomen, musculoskeletal and uro-gynecological problems in addition to negative body image and impaired quality of life.
