Background: The incidence of skin cancer in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and systemic sclerosis (SSc) has only been investigated with retrospective studies enrolling a low number of patients. The aims of our study were to assess the incidence of skin cancer in two large cohorts of patients, one with SLE and the other with SSc and investigating possible risk factors.
Methods: Ninety SLE, 53 SSc patients and 392 control subjects were enrolled.
In this case study, we describe a 21-year-old man with erythropoietic protoporphyria who sought medical attention in April 2022 for diffuse edema and erythema of the hands. These symptoms had been present since childhood and usually occurred soon after sun exposure. The patient's medical history showed that chromosome 18's long arm had partially deleted.

It predominantly occurs on the upper and lower extremities of adult patients. Immunohistochemically, CSM is characterized by the co-expression of smooth muscle and epithelial markers.

From 2013 to 2017, 145 patients underwent a first treatment cycle with phototherapy. They achieved a median final EASI score of 9.

Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) enables to observe in vivo atypical melanocytes beyond the clinical margins. The aim of this study is to establish which of these methods (clinical examination and dermoscopy versus "Paper tape - RCM") is more precise to define the lesion margin and to reduce the number of re-intervention and overtreatments in cosmetically sensitive areas.

Background: Photochemotherapy with bathwater delivery of psoralens plus UVA exposures (bath-PUVA) is mainly used for those psoriatic patients who are not responsive to narrowband (NB)-UVB phototherapy and oral-PUVA therapy and belong to two categories (1) patients with psoriasis without systemic comorbidities who do not need long-term continuous treatment and (2) patients who have contraindications to immunosuppressive drugs and oral-PUVA or refuse systemic drugs, including oral ingestion of psoralens, for personal reasons. However, it is not known how many patients belong to the second group and how much bath-PUVA is effective and safe for them.
Methods: We have reviewed the treatment results of a cohort of 120 patients with clinical indication to bath-PUVA for the above-mentioned reasons between 2010 and 2019.
Background: Narrow-band (NB) UVB has been combined with a number of topical treatments. However, there have been no specific data regarding treatment results of a fixed combination of calcipotriene 50 μg/g plus betamethasone 0.5 mg/g aerosol foam (Cal/BD) combined with NB-UVB phototherapy so far.

Daylight photodynamic therapy (dl-PDT) has been demonstrated to represent a valuable treatment option for AC, but its feasibility is limited by weather conditions and latitude.
Methods: Our study proposed to compare the efficacy and tolerability of conventional photodynamic therapy (c-PDT) and indoor daylight photodynamic therapy (idl-PDT) with a white LED lamp for the treatment of AC.

Actinic keratoses (AKs) are pre-malignant epithelial lesions induced by chronic cumulative UV exposure. Several guidelines concerning AKs treatment have been published in the past years. Among destructive procedures, cryotherapy is today considered a standard first-line approach in case of single lesions.

To investigate the effects of significant psychological stress on clinician- and patient-oriented tests for severe AD patients treated with dupilumab. Patients were investigated before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in a severely affected area.

In this study, we investigated by immunohistochemical analysis the expression of E-cadherin (EC) on pDCs in reactive lymph nodes and tonsils, bone marrow, and in BPDCN. We compared the expression of EC in BPDCN to that in leukemia cutis (LC) and cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE), the latter typically featuring pDC activation.

We report here the clinical findings and results of laboratory investigations and phototesting of 6 patients who experience debilitating and excruciating pain after sun exposure ("sun pain") in the absence of any skin eruption. Phototesting with sub-erythemal doses of ultraviolet A radiation triggered localized pain in 4 patients.

In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of CAP in the treatment of multiple AKs and assessed morphological changes induced on the skin field of cancerization both clinically and by high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS).
Methods: Patients with multiple grade I-II AKs of the scalp and/or face who were resistant or intolerant to conventional field-directed treatments were enrolled.

Background: Afamelanotide (AFA) is a synthetic analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone that is approved for the treatment of patients affected by erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). AFA induces a "sun free" tanning and changes of acquired melanocytic nevi (AMN) that are generically described as "darkening".
Objectives: To assess clinical and dermoscopic AMN changes during AFA treatment.
Background: Although polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been classified as human carcinogens for their association with melanoma, few data are available for other skin lesions.
Objectives: To investigate the prevalence of skin disorders in a highly PCB polluted area in northern Italy, with locally produced food as the main source of human contamination, and evaluate the association between skin lesions and PCB serum levels, taking account of possible confounders.
Materials & Methods: Thirty-three PCB congeners were quantitatively assessed and a total of 189 subjects were equally divided into three groups using the tertiles of total PCB serum concentrations.
Background: Since the best clinical response to dupilumab is achieved after 12-16 weeks, a combination therapy at the beginning of the treatment could be a helpful strategy to reach a faster response in patients with severe atopic dermatitis (AD).
Objectives: To quantify the benefit of a combination of dupilumab treatment with a short course of narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy.
Methods: In the present pilot study adult patients suffering from severe AD were enrolled with a 2:1 ratio to receive treatment with dupilumab alone or dupilumab plus NB-UVB phototherapy, for 12 weeks.
Background: In the past 30 years, topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been investigated for the treatment of a broad spectrum of cosmetic, inflammatory, and infectious skin conditions with variable, and often contrasting, results. However, the non-expert clinician may be in difficulty evaluating these results because different sensitizers, concentrations, formulations, light sources, and irradiation protocols have been used. In addition, many of these studies have poor quality design being case reports and uncontrolled studies of few cases.
