  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent liver condition and is influenced by genetics and environmental factors, with oxidation and inflammation playing key roles in its progression.
  • A study examined the effects of a 6-month trial of Mastiha (a natural supplement with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties) on patients with NAFLD and obesity, finding that those with severe obesity had improved total antioxidant status after taking Mastiha compared to a placebo group.
  • The research also explored genetic interactions with Mastiha supplementation, revealing novel associations between specific genes and levels of inflammation and antioxidant biomarkers relevant to NAFLD.

The present study sought to retrospectively investigate the dietary habits of two adolescent, European populations from the cross-sectional Greek TEENAGE Study and French STANISLAS Family Study. We aimed to explore the relation between the populations' dietary patterns and blood pressure, glycemic and lipidemic profile. Dietary patterns were extracted via Principal Component Analysis (PCA), based on data collected from two 24 h dietary recalls for the TEENAGE study and a 3-day food consumption diary for the STANISLAS study.
