Article Synopsis
  • - The systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the significance of low pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) levels in predicting adverse pregnancy outcomes in twin pregnancies, such as hypertensive disorders, preterm birth, and fetal growth restriction.
  • - A total of 11 studies with 3,741 patients were analyzed; the findings showed no strong link between low PAPP-A levels and hypertensive disorders, but suggested a positive association with preterm birth and small-for-gestational-age conditions.
  • - Despite some correlations found, the study emphasized that the current sample size may not be sufficient to establish definitive conclusions, highlighting the need for further research in this area.

: Obstetric ultrasound is one of the most commonly used imaging modalities during pregnancy to detect any fetal abnormalities. The aim of this systematic review was to appraise all available scientific literature and summarize current evidence regarding the safety of fetal ultrasound by using the thermal index (TI) and mechanical index (MI). : We applied the PRISMA guidelines in order to prepare the review, and a 2-step process was performed in order to evaluate the available literature and decide which studies to be included.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the differences in maternal serum biomarkers during the first and second trimesters for aneuploidy screening among women with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), placenta previa, and normal pregnancies.
  • A systematic review of data up to April 2023 included 8 retrospective studies with 1886 participants, revealing significant variations in biomarker levels, such as higher pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A in PAS patients during the first trimester.
  • The findings highlight the potential for developing early screening methods for placental disorders, but emphasize the need for further large-scale studies to validate these results.

Objectives: There is controversial evidence that acidification of vaginal pH may increase the efficacy of vaginal prostaglandins in labor induction, with research being mainly focused on misoprostol. This study aims to evaluate the impact of this intervention on the progress of labor induction with dinoprostone (PGE2) vaginal tablet.

Methods: This double-blind, parallel-group, randomized study was conducted between October 2021 and December 2022 at Alexandra General Hospital, Athens, Greece.

This study investigates links between CART and leptin gene expression, FSH receptor Asn680Ser polymorphism, and reproductive hormones in morbidly obese patients under 40 years old, facing infertility, and undergoing bariatric surgery. A total of 29 women were included in this study. A hormonal profile along with detection of CART and leptin gene expression was evaluated before and after bariatric surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • - Assessing fetal growth is crucial in prenatal care since restricted growth can lead to serious health risks for both the baby and mother, including premature birth and long-term health issues.
  • - A systematic review analyzed 20 studies with 1850 women to examine the relationship between serum adipokine levels (like leptin and adiponectin) and fetal growth restriction, focusing on their potential alterations in high-risk pregnancies.
  • - The findings indicated that while maternal blood leptin was the most studied and showed some elevation in growth-restricted fetuses, the differences were not statistically significant, and overall data on the other adipokines were insufficient, highlighting the need for more extensive research.
