History of the Journal of Nursing of the Federal University of Santa Maria.

Objective: To report the history of the Journal of Nursing of the Federal University of Santa Maria.

Method: This is an experience report based on information from secondary materials, such as websites and documents. Data were grouped and presented according to the time sequence.

Social support towards the necessity of caring after myocardial infarction.

Objective: to know the received or assisted social support by the family towards the necessity of care after acute myocardial infarction.

Method: qualitative and exploratory research. Data collection was carried out through observation and interviews with six families, from February to May, 2012.

[Care as a commitment of all: a study in a rural settlement].

This study aims to understand the perceptions of care of families living in a rural settlement in the northwestern area of Rio Grande do Sul. It is an ethnographical based qualitative field research, which has used the Observation-Participation-Reflection Model for data collection, performed between February and March, 2011. The data analysis went through four steps: raw data collection and documentation, describers and indexes identification, contextual and current patterns analysis, and identification of research themes and relevant findings.

[Identity of the resilient man in the context of ill with prostate cancer: a cultural perspective].

The study aimed to understand the context of resilient man when ill with prostate cancer. This is an ethnographic case study conducted with two prostate cancer survival men with a high degree of resilience. The data was collected on their places, in 2012 April and May, using semi-structured in-depth interviews, participant observation and ecomap.

[Influence of social networks on the therapeutic itineraries of people with venous ulcer].

The aim of this study was to identify the influence of social networks in the therapeutic itinerary of people affected by venous ulcers. Qualititative research was conducted in the outpatient clinic of a public hospital in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were collected from January to February 2013 by means of semi-structured interviews with 14 people affected by venous ulcers.

[Contributions of health education groups to the knowledge of people with hypertension].

This study investigated how the health knowledge is constructed by individuals with hypertension, accompanied by a team of family health. This is a qualitative descriptive study, conducted with nine individuals whose data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observation. The data was analyzed through thematic analysis.

[Family experiences post-acute myocardial infarction].

This study aimed to describe the family experiences post-infarction. Qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research, carried out with six families of post-infarction patients. Data collection was conducted in families' homes, in the period of February to May of 2012, through observation and interviews with the family.

[Terminal patient home care: the family caregivers perspective].

This study was aimed at getting to know the relationships built among patients, family caregivers and the health care team, during home care,from the perspective of the family caregiver It is a qualitative study with 11 family caregivers of terminal patients, registered on a home care service of a university hospital in the South of Brazil. Data collection was carried out through narrative interviews that were recorded transcribed and analyzed through content analysis. Three categories were built from data analysis: relationships among the family caregiver, the patient and the health care team; awareness of the patient's terminal condition.

[The educational work of nurses in the Family Health Strategy: difficulties and perspectives on change].

The objective of this study was to understand the difficulties and perspectives on change that nurses have identified in developing educational interventions in the Family Health Strategy (FHS). This is a qualitative, descriptive-exploratory study. The data were collected with 20 nurses working in the FHS of the 10th Regional Health District of Paraná, by means of semi-structured interviews carried out in April 2010, which were subjected to content analysis.

[Social networks and participation in a community referenced to a family health care unit].

The aim of this research is to describe factors that may influence the constitution of social networks and participation in a community referenced to a Family Health Care Unit, located in a medium-sized city in the South of Brazil. It is a qualitative research developed with key informants, community members, community health agents and other health team personnel. The method used was rapid participative assessment, through semi-structured interviews and field observation.

[Intergenerational care with elderly: autonomy of the elderly and presence of caregiver].

This study aimed to describe and interpret autonomy and presence as determinants and signifiers of intergenerational care to the elderly. It is a qualitative and ethnographic research, with data collected through interviews and participant observation. The subjects were ten elderly and their respective caregivers.

[Perceptions of women in puerperium regarding factors that influence breast feeding].

The following paper presents the results of an exploratory-descriptive research, applying a qualitative approach. The main goal was to understand the perceptions of women in puerperium concerning the factors that influence breast feeding. The study has been carried out in a university hospital.

[Factors that influence treatment adherence in chronic disease patients undergoing hemodialysis].

The following bibliographical research wanted to identify the main factors that influence adherence to treatment in chronic disease. The study focused on patients undergoing hemodialysis, as well as on the support nurses require for the promotion of health education among individuals with low treatment adherence. The identification of bibliographical sources was conducted at Health Virtual Library and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) data bases.

[Culture permeating the feelings and the reactions in the face of pain].

This study describes the perception of pain and the meanings it has for adults who use the Brazilian public health system, the Sistema Unico de Saúde (SUS). The sample was comprised of 60 patients who sought the service in the period. This is a descriptive-explanatory research whose data were collected through semi-structured interviews and evaluated qualitatively.

[Popular knowledge and health education in nursing training].

From the point of view of including the health reform in the pedagogical projects of nursing courses, in accordance with curriculum guidelines, it contextualises the formation of a nurse for health education and the importance of bringing practice and care together, as well as includes the results of research with nurses in seven towns in rural communities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It is a qualitative survey with data collection by means of participatory observation, interviews, and document-based content analysis. These data were obtained in activities observed in the work of nurses in health education.

[Health and work: a correlation of concepts in the perspectives of a rural population and of Christophe Dejours].

This study deepens the discussion about the concept of health constructed by Christophe Dejours and the one perceived by families who are descended from Italian immigrants who are agricultural workers at the Fourth Colony of Italian Immigration, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In this paper, the concept of health is discussed viewing the academic and popular knowledge. As the study develops, it is possible to perceive the occurrence of an approximation of the author's thoughts with the families descending from Italian immigrants regarding health and work.

[Participation in the design of a political pedagogical project in nursing].

This paper reports an experience tracing the route of the academic community pursuing a Nursing Degree at Federal University of Santa Maria, while designing their Political-Pedegogical Project. The methodology used for creating this project was the promotion of seminars, which brought together professors, students, civil servants, and nurses who work in practice classes and supervised internships. For the organization of the project, referential, conceptual, and structural landmarks have been used, adapted from Saupe and Alves.
