[Materialities and transnational scientific culture of objects: the 12th International Congress of Zoology, Lisbon, 1935].

The material memory of the 12th International Congress of Zoology, held in Lisbon in 1935 includes insignias - the starfish - and caricatures of zoologists. Through an investigation of the archives at the University of Lisbon's National Museum of Natural History and Science, we intend to investigate the material landscape as conceived by the zoologist Artur Ricardo Jorge by drawing epistemologically on the potentialities of the biography of scientific objects. This research note reveals a scientific discourse translated into materialities circulated in public spaces in the globalized Europe of the 1930s, with references from scientific power, in the context of Portugal's Estado Novo regime, enshrined in its 1933 constitution.

A forgotten Jewish-Portuguese historian of medicine: Dr. Augusto Isaac d'Esaguy, OSE, 1899-1961.

Augusto Isaac d'Esaguy was a 20th century Portuguese medical historian who made contributions to the history of Portuguese-Jewish physicians and was also involved with the Jewish-Portuguese Refugee Committee which assisted with the relocation of Jews from Nazi-controlled France during the Second World War.

Association of traumatic dental injuries with individual-, sociodemographic- and school-related factors among schoolchildren in midwest Brazil.

The objective of this study was to assess the association of untreated traumatic dental injuries (TDI) with individual-, sociodemographic- and school-related factors among 12-year-old schoolchildren in Midwest Brazil. This cross-sectional study was carried out in 2010 in the city of Goiania, Brazil. A random sample of 2075 schoolchildren was examined and interviewed.

Motivation towards career choice of Brazilian freshman students in a fifteen-year period.

Examining dental students' profiles and perspectives contributes to discussions concerning dental education and practice. This study aimed, first, to investigate Brazilian dental students' reasons for pursuing dentistry as an occupation and, secondly, to consider the professional expectations of freshman students at a Brazilian public university over a fifteen-year period. A cross-sectional study was performed using data from a self-administered questionnaire to all first-year students enrolled in the 1993-95 and 2006-08 periods at the Federal University of Goias, Brazil (n=376).

Factors influencing students' performance in a Brazilian dental school.

Comprehensive assessment of students' academic performance plays an important role in educational planning. The aim of this study was to investigate variables that influence student's performance in a retrospective sample including all undergraduate students who entered in a Brazilian dental school, in a 20-year period between 1984 and 2003 (n=1182). Demographic and educational variables were used to predict performance in the overall curriculum and course groups.

[Quality of life among dentists of a local public health service].

Objective: To assess quality of life and related factors among dentists of a local public health service.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out comprising dentists working (N=237) in the city of Goiânia, Midwesthern Brazil, in 2004. Data were collected using a questionnaire including the WHOQOL-Bref instrument, demographic data and occupation information, and self-rated health status and quality of life.
