Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a preventable and treatable disease with some significant extrapulmonary effects that may contribute to the severity in individual patients. Its pulmonary component is characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. The airflow limitation is usually progressive and associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of the lung to noxious particles or gases.

[A primary undifferentiated pleomorph cardiac sarcoma. Case report].

The aim of the study was to characterize the clinical and histological picture of a malignant cardiac tumor, to assess the prognosis and to develop a management strategy. We described a primary cardiac sarcoma, located in the right ventricle. Minimal invasive right thoracotomy was used and a partial surgical excision of the malignant cardiac tumor was made as a palliative procedure.

It is well known that nicotine that is a major toxic component of cigarette smoke induces oxidative stress which is responsible for the lung damages in COPD and cancer. There have been reported some cases of COPD in never smoking patients exposed to air pollutants. The aim of our study is to evaluate the morphological pulmonary changes in rats exposed to cigarette smoke respectively to solid combustible smoke and to establish the relationship between the exposure and the level of oxidative stress measured through serum (s) and pulmonary tissue (l) MDA in rats (TBARS method).

It mainly consists in bringing and precisely organizing in a single paraffin block of hundreds of micro-cylinders from different blocks.

[Systemic lupus erythematosus with neurologic onset and secondary antiphospholipid syndrome. A Case Study].

A 39-years-old woman was admitted to our hospital with musculoskeletal complaints (myalgias and symmetric arthralgias in proximal interphalangeal, metacarpophalangeal joints of the hands and in knees), systemic symptoms like fever, fatigue, malaise and a six months previous history of a transient ischemic attack. The presence of antibodies to double-stranded deoxyribonucleic-acid (DNA) and antiphospholipid antibodies led to the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus with secondary antiphospholipid syndrome. Cerebral infarction develops significantly more often in patients with lupus and antiphospholipid antibodies, but other clinical syndromes are associated with lupus anticoagulant: cognitive dysfunction, seizures, polyneuropathy, aseptic meningitis, myelopathy.

[Systemic amyloidosis. Case report].

The amyloid deposition in skeletal muscle is well known but a rare occurrence. The study reflects the morphoclinical picture in cardiac amyloidosis in a 51 years old woman, having progressive cardiac failure and sinus node disease. A complete clinical evaluation of the patient showed a concomitant malignancy, plasma-cell myeloma.

Histiocytic sarcoma associated with Hodgkin's disease.

Histiocytic sarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm. It is well-known the association of Langerhans' cell histiocytosis with Hodgkin's disease but only few cases of histiocytic sarcoma associated with Hodgkin's disease was reported. We present the case of 20-years-old female patient with Hodgkin's disease with a sternal tumor mass which was diagnosed as histiocytic sarcoma.

Neurofibroma, schwannoma or a hybrid tumor of the peripheral nerve sheath?

Classically, the different subtypes of the peripheral nerve sheets tumors display typical morphological features which differentiate them from the other nervous tumors. Either schwannoma or neurofibroma have characteristic histological and immunohistochemical features. We present a case of peripheral nerve sheets hybrid tumor which have had histological and immunohistochemical features of neurofibroma and schwannoma.

[Anal squamous cell carcinoma synchronous with rectal adenocarcinoma].

Most often colorectal carcinoma occurs single; synchronous multiple carcinomas usually develop at widely disparate sites. We report the case of a 75-year-old male, accusing rectal bleeding, disturbances in bowel transit and weight loss. The rectoscopy examination revealed a fungating, bleeding tumor located 5 cm from anal verge.
