Nanotechnology has been comprehensively applied as a new approach to managing wound healing. Particularly, nanoclays are being used to improve traditional wound healing approaches or new therapies. Nanoclays are nanoscale aluminosilicates with remarkable intrinsic properties, including the capacity to promote hemostatic response, anti-inflammatory effects, angiogenesis, and re-epithelization.

Background: Ruthenium complexes have been extensively investigated for their prospective value as alternatives to cisplatin. Recently, we reported the in vitro anticancer properties of a family of organometallic ruthenium( II)-cyclopentadienyl complexes and have explored their mechanism of action.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vivo antitumour efficacy and toxicity of one of these Ru(II) compounds, [RuCp(mTPPMSNa)(2,2'-bipy)][CF3SO2] (TM85) which displayed an interesting spectrum of activity against several cancer cells.

Background And Aim: Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) is a proinflammatory cytokine that seems to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). TNF-alpha exerts its effects by binding to specific receptors (TNFR); the polymorphism of TNFRII T587G has been associated with increased TNF apoptotic response and its presence may increase the risk to develop liver disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of the TNF-alpha G238A promoter and TNFRII polymorphisms, individually or simultaneously, in ALD.

Objective: To define the profile of smokers who seek professional assistance through a smoking cessation program and to compare smoker profiles among males, females and elderly people.

Methods: Two-hundred and three smokers were prospectively evaluated. The participants completed questionnaires related to smoking history, history of psychiatric disorders, depression, anxiety and nicotine dependence as well as a general self-report questionnaire.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed four genetic polymorphisms (TNF-alpha, IL-10, CD14, and MnSOD) in 176 heavy drinkers to see if they are linked to alcoholic liver disease (ALD) compared to those without liver disease (NLD).
  • - Results showed no significant differences in the prevalence of these polymorphisms between those with ALD and those without, suggesting that these genetic factors may not play a role in developing ALD.
  • - The study concluded that there was no association between the tested polymorphisms and the presence of established ALD, challenging previous beliefs about their impact on liver disease risk.
