Vulvar melanocytic nevi: a dermoscopic investigation.

Background: Very few dermoscopic investigations into pigmented genital lesions have been performed to date. To the best of our knowledge, no dermoscopical description of vulvar melanocytic nevi (MN) has yet been proposed.

Objective: Our aims were to analyze the dermoscopic features of vulvar MN and to review the literature of dermoscopy of the vulvar area.

Are melanocytic nevi influenced by pregnancy? A dermoscopic evaluation.

Background: Dermoscopic data of melanocytic nevi (MN) in pregnancy are very limited and related to small groups of women.

Objective: This study systematically analyzes dermoscopic parameters in a wide series of MN during and after pregnancy.

Methods: Eighty-six MN on the back of 47 women were studied.

An unusual local reaction after microsclerotherapy with chromated glycerin.

A case of papular itching lesions after microsclerotherapy with chromated glycerin (CG) at a 72% concentration for telangiectases of the thighs is reported. Patch-test results were strongly positive for nickel sulfate (+++/+++) and thimerosal (++/++) whereas results were negative for the sclerosing agent CG 72% and glycerol (control). Intradermal injection of CG 72% in the thigh and intravascular injection of CG 72% into telangiectases of the knee produced erythematous papular itching lesions in about 5 to 6 hours.

Air bags and the skin.

Air bags, fitted in the majority of new automobiles, are safety devices activated when a sudden deceleration causes the ignition of a propellant cartridge containing sodium azide. The bag is inflated by nitrogen liberated during the combustion. Deployment releases various high-temperature gases, including nitrogen and carbon dioxide, and produces sodium hydroxide, a highly irritant alkaline substance.

Primary vulvar melanoma with satellite metastasis: dermoscopic findings.

A 79-year-old woman presented with a 1-year history of a pigmented nodular lesion on the left labium minor. Histopathology of the nodule led to a diagnosis of metastatic melanoma. A pigmented flat lesion on the inner side of the left labium major was also biopsied and was found to be a superficial spreading melanoma.

Are patch tests useful in plasma cell vulvitis?

Objective: To evaluate eventual contact sensitization in 7 patients with plasma cell vulvitis (PCV).

Study Design: Seven women with PCV underwent patch tests with the Italian standard series and with additional batteries of allergens (perfumes, preservatives, emulsifiers, medicaments and corticosteroid series).

Results: One patient experienced a positive reaction t o balsam of Peru and wool alcohol.

Acroangiodermatitis of amputation stump.

Acroangiodermatitis is an angioproliferative disease characterized by pseudosarcomatous papules and plaques. It is often associated with different disorders like: chronic venous insufficiency, artero-venous malformations, artero-venous shunts, paralysed limb. In the case of amputation stumps the traumatic and suctional stimula may be the cause of this reactive pathology.

Fungal skin infections in organ transplant recipients.

Transplantation is now currently and increasingly performed for the treatment of various acute and chronic diseases. Today the kidney, heart, lung, heart-lung, liver, pancreas, kidney-pancreas, small bowel and bone marrow are being transplanted. The immunological status of patients receiving such transplants exposes them to the risk of developing bacterial, viral and fungal infections.
