The study focuses on finding sustainable methods for methanol production amid rising demand and resource competition, specifically analyzing the process using olive pomace versus traditional natural gas.
A life cycle assessment was conducted using SimaPro software to evaluate the environmental impacts of producing methanol from olive pomace, which includes olive production, oil extraction, and the methanol production process itself.
Results showed that methanol production from olive pomace had a higher environmental impact in most categories compared to natural gas production, indicating potential inefficiencies in the processes involved.
