Maternal obesity, caused by diets rich in fats and sugars during pregnancy, can predispose offspring to metabolic diseases such as diabetes. We hypothesized that obesity during pregnancy leads to increased DNA methylation and reduced protein expression in factors regulating β-cell function and apoptosis. Female C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD; 42% fat content; n = 3) or a control diet (CON; 16% fat content; n = 3) for fourteen weeks before and during pregnancy.

This study had three objectives, which were to evaluate the effect of feeding cranberry vine pellet (CVP) on (1) ewes' body weights and BCS during late gestation and lactation; (2) ewes' milk quality during lactation; and (3) lambs' body weight and growth parameters from birth to 65 days of age. Across two years, 41 Dorset ewes were fed either a 50% CVP or a matching control pellet (CON) from 104 ± 1.

However, the mechanism(s) that contribute to altered placenta growth and function are not well understood. We hypothesized that poor maternal diet would impact signaling through the C-X-C motif chemokine ligand (CXCL) 12-CXCL4 axis and/or placental expression of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) axis.

We hypothesized that maternal under- and over-nutrition during gestation would negatively affect offspring pancreas development and alter DNA methylation patterns. Pregnant ewes ( = 78) were fed 100, 60, or 140% of NRC requirements beginning at d 30.

Gas chromatography was used to measure transepithelial transport of glycylsarcosine (Gly-Sar) by perfused lobster (Homarus americanus) intestine. Unidirectional and net fluxes of dipeptide across the tissue and luminal factors affecting their magnitude and direction were characterized by perfusing the lumen with the dipeptide and measuring its appearance in saline on the serosal side of the organ. Transmural transport of 10 mM Gly-Sar resulted in serosal accumulation of only the dipeptide; no appearance of corresponding monomeric amino acids glycine or sarcosine was observed.

Long polymers that exhibit "snakelike" reptation based mobility in melts may diffuse faster in confined nanometer sized cylinders with pore diameter d approximately 15 nm, and short polymers subject to Rouse dynamics have shown signatures of reptation and slower diffusion when confined in nanoporous glass with d approximately 4 nm. However, the mobility of short polymers with radii of gyration similar to a smaller pore diameter (d < or = 2.
