Background: Dental erosion is a chemical loss of the mineralized dental tissue caused by exposure to nonbacterial acids. Different treatment protocols have been adopted with the use of fluoride compounds to promote the formation of a layer of mineral precipitation in eroded lesions.

Aim: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the main treatments for dental erosion.

Aims: During the COVID-19 pandemic the search for complementary methods to enhance manual disinfection in dental and medical practices raised relevance. We sought evidence for the addition of ultraviolet-C (UV-C) disinfection to manual cleaning protocols -and whether it improves the logarithmic (log) reduction of surface pathogen colonies.

Methods: This review was registered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) under the number CRD420200193961.

Article Synopsis
  • Different studies have linked fluoride exposure to potential neurological disorders in children, but clinical evidence on specific neurological effects has been inconsistent and controversial.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis of 4,024 studies narrowed down to 27 relevant ones, primarily examining IQ changes associated with fluoride from sources like fluoridated water.
  • The analysis indicated a correlation between high fluoride exposure and IQ impairment in individuals, but found no significant evidence of neurological disorders at low exposure levels, highlighting the need for further research due to the weak quality of existing evidence.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a group of progressive disorders that affect the central nervous system (CNS) such as Alzheimer, Parkinson, and multiple sclerosis. Inflammation plays a critical role in the onset and progression of these injuries. Periodontitis is considered an inflammatory disease caused by oral biofilms around the tooth-supporting tissues, leading to a systemic and chronic inflammatory condition.

Diabetic retinopathy is a common microvascular complication in diabetic patients and is considered the main cause of visual loss worldwide. Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition, which compromises dental supporting tissues. The chronic bacterial challenge in periodontitis is a persistent source of inflammatory mediators that may be associated with insulin resistance, increasing the risk of complications of diabetes mellitus.

In traditional communities of the Brazilian Amazon, the copaiba oleoresin ( Ducke) is widely known for its therapeutic activity, especially its wound healing and anti-inflammatory actions. Our study aimed to evaluate these effects in oral lesions and the safety of the dosage proposed. A punch biopsy wound was induced on the ventral surface of the tongue of forty-five male rats under anesthesia.

An amount of cognition decline is normal with aging; however, intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors may exacerbate it, affecting social and occupational tasks. Masticatory dysfunction (MD), as a general term, refers to an impairment in the masticatory function triggered by a structural factor, such as tooth loss; functional factors, such as weaker bite force or a poorer masticatory performance; or both factors. MD acting as a source of chronic stress, promotes functional and morphological changes on the hippocampus, a brain area crucial for learning and memory abilities.
