Previous research has suggested that the impact of smoke affected wines require human evaluation due to in-mouth changes in perception, perhaps associated with saliva. Smoke affected wines ( = 36) from three major wine growing regions in the US were sourced from commercial wineries. A subset of these wines ( = 7) were evaluated by a consumer panel ( = 57) and electronic tongue (e-tongue) to determine the influence of saliva in the sensory profile.

Sensory Perception and Food-Evoked Emotions of Older Adults Assessing Microwave-Processed Meals with Different Salt Concentrations.

This study employed a home-use test to explore the sensory perception and evoked emotions of older adults in the assessment of chicken pasta meals with different salt concentrations. Ready-to-eat (RTE) meals with three salt levels (100%, 75%, and 50%) and two treatments-with and without added herbs-were tested. This study used data from consumer testing, descriptive analysis (DA), and preference mapping to determine the sensory characteristics of pear cultivars from two harvest seasons in the Pacific Northwest (PNW). Development of a Ready-to-Eat Fish Product Enriched with Fish Oil Entrapped in a κ-Carrageenan Egg White Fish Protein Hydrolysate Dry Powder.

This work describes the development of a ready-to-eat (RTE) product based on an equal mixture of fish mince from three undervalued fish species with different fat contents and protein gelling capacity, which was enriched with fish oil entrapped in a κ-carrageenan egg white fish protein hydrolysate powder, obtained by either spray drying (SD) or heat drying (HD) at 80 °C (HD80). Previously, the spray-dried (SD) powder and heat-dried powders obtained at 45 °C, 60 °C and 80 °C (HD45, HD60 and HD80) were characterised in terms of water solubility, lipid oxidation (TBARS), hygroscopicity and ζ potential. All HD powders showed higher hygroscopicity and lower TBARS than the SD powder.

The aim of this study was to evaluate SeptiCyte RAPID, a host immune response assay (Immunexpress, Seattle USA) as a triaging tool for COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization and potentially ICU care. SeptiCyte RAPID employs a host gene expression signature consisting of the ratio of expression levels of two immune related mRNAs, PLA2G7 and PLAC8, measured from whole blood samples.

The clinical utility of integrative genomics in childhood cancer extends beyond targetable mutations.

We conducted integrative somatic-germline analyses by deeply sequencing 864 cancer-associated genes, complete genomes and transcriptomes for 300 mostly previously treated children and adolescents/young adults with cancer of poor prognosis or with rare tumors enrolled in the SickKids Cancer Sequencing (KiCS) program. Clinically actionable variants were identified in 56% of patients. Improved diagnostic accuracy led to modified management in a subset.

Physical and Oxidative Water-in-Oil Emulsion Stability by the Addition of Liposomes from Shrimp Waste Oil with Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Properties.

Suboptimal Concentrations of Ceftazidime/Avibactam (CAZ-AVI) May Select for CAZ-AVI Resistance in Extensively Drug-Resistant : In Vivo and In Vitro Evidence.

This study correlates in vivo findings in a patient with an extensively drug-resistant (XDR) infection who developed resistance to ceftazidime-avibactam (CAZ-AVI) with in vitro results of a 7-day hollow-fiber infection model (HFIM) testing the same bacterial strain. The patient was critically ill with ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by XDR ST175 with CAZ-AVI MIC of 6 mg/L and was treated with CAZ-AVI in continuous infusion at doses adjusted for renal function. Plasma concentrations of CAZ-AVI were analyzed on days 3, 7, and 10.

Bloodstream Infections in Patients with Cancer: Differences between Patients with Hematological Malignancies and Solid Tumors.

Objectives: To assess the clinical features and outcomes of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bloodstream infection (PA BSI) in neutropenic patients with hematological malignancies (HM) and with solid tumors (ST), and identify the risk factors for 30-day mortality. Methods: We performed a large multicenter, retrospective cohort study including onco-hematological neutropenic patients with PA BSI conducted across 34 centers in 12 countries (January 2006−May 2018).
