Background: Several studies have shown a correlation between an altered metabolome and respiratory allergies. The epithelial barrier hypothesis proposes that an epithelial barrier dysfunction can result in allergic diseases development. Der p 1 allergen from house dust mite is a renowned epithelial barrier disruptor and allergy initiator due to its cysteine-protease activity.

A progressive increase in sIgG levels and FAB blockage were also found.
Methods: By monitoring immunological kinetics during 3 years of active treatment + 2 years of follow-up, we aimed to identify key immunological parameters that could explain sustained clinical benefit of grass tablet sublingual immunotherapy.
The inflammatory response is tightly regulated by several mediators that promote the adhesive and migratory capacities of different cell types, including peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Our laboratory has previously characterized the inflammatory response developed in the experimental model of mercuric chloride (HgCl(2))-induced nephritis in Brown Norway rats as an acute inflammatory response dependent on very late antigen (VLA)-4. This response can be modulated by all-trans-retinoic acid (at-RA), a vitamin A metabolite that regulates a broad range of biological processes and exhibits anti-inflammatory properties.
