Vitamin D deficiency increases with age and adiposity in Emirati children and adolescents irrespective of type 1 diabetes mellitus: a case control study.

Background: Association of vitamin D (25(OH)D) deficiency with obesity and diabetes has been well-established in paediatric and adult populations. This study aims to report the association of 25(OH)D deficiency with body composition and prevalence of 25(OH)D deficiency in Emirati children and adolescents, who attended a diabetes centre in the United Arab Emirates.

Methods: Using Abu Dhabi Diabetes and Obesity Study cohort, type 1 diabetes (T1D) and normoglycaemic (NG) participants between 4-19 years of age were selected.

The Effect of Coronavirus Disease-19 Pandemic Lockdown and the Overlapping Ramadan Fasting Period on Glucose Control in Insulin-Treated Patients With Diabetes: A Flash Glucose Monitoring Study.

Background: A strict lockdown was enforced during coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in many countries including the UAE. Lockdown period overlapped with Ramadan which is accompanied by its own drastic changes in lifestyle that include meal timings.

Aims: We report the impact of COVID-19 lockdown (between 22/3/2020 and 24/6/2020) on glucose control pre- and postlockdown and during Ramadan, in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) on insulin therapy.

Obesity and Diabetes in an Arab population: Role of Adenovirus 36 Infection.

Prior infection with adenovirus 36 (Adv36) has been associated with increased adiposity, improved insulin sensitivity, and a lower prevalence of diabetes. This study investigated the prevalence of Adv36 seropositivity and its association with obesity and diabetes among adults attending a diabetes centre in the UAE.Participants (N = 973) with different weight and glucose tolerance categories were recruited.

Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis of prevalence studies in women of childbearing age in the Middle East and North Africa, 2000-2018.

Background: Investing in women's health is an inevitable investment in our future. We systematically reviewed the available evidence and summarized the weighted prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and pre-diabetes mellitus (pre-DM) in women of childbearing age (15-49 years) in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region.

Methods: We comprehensively searched six electronic databases to retrieve published literature and prevalence studies on T2DM and pre-DM in women of childbearing age in the MENA.
