The present study aimed to investigate whether training status would influence the capacity of a verification phase (VER) to confirm maximal oxygen uptake (VOmax) of a previous graded exercise test (GXT) in individuals with hypertension. Twelve older adults with hypertension (8 women) were recruited. Using a within-subject design, participants performed a treadmill GXT to exhaustion followed by a multistage VER both before and after a 12-wkcombined exercise training programme.

Article Synopsis
  • Physical inactivity is a major public health issue, resulting in over five million deaths annually, with one-third of adults not meeting physical activity recommendations.
  • A study was conducted in Pelotas, Brazil, involving 230 breast cancer patients and 231 matched controls, to explore the link between physical activity and breast cancer risk.
  • Results indicated that higher levels of leisure-time physical activity were associated with a decreased risk of breast cancer, urging further research to understand the underlying mechanisms and optimal activity levels for health benefits.
