Vascular anomalies (VA) refer to abnormal blood or lymphatic vessel architecture, most often as a result of dysregulated growth. Venous malformations (VM), a subgroup of VAs, are triggered by activating mutations in the Angiopoietin/TIE2-PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway with TIE2 L914F (gene name TEK) being one of the most frequent mutations in patients with VMs. Although systemic targeting of the overactivated pathway is possible, it would be a therapeutic advantage to restrict treatment to only the affected lesions.

2-Furaldehyde (2-FAL) is one of the main by-products of the degradation of hemicellulose, which is the solid material of the oil-paper insulating system of oil-filled transformers. For this reason, it has been suggested as a marker of the degradation of the insulating system; sensing devices for 2-FAL analysis in a wide concentration range are of high interest in these systems. An optical sensor system is proposed; this consists of a chemical chip, able to capture 2-FAL from the insulating oil, coupled with a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) probe, both realized on multimode plastic optical fibers (POFs).

Split hand/foot malformation is a heterogeneous congenital disorder mainly presented with a median cleft of hands or/and feet. It can be associated with long bone aplasia, a syndrome also known as split hand/foot syndrome with long bone deficiency (SHFLD), which is a very rare condition. Objective: To investigate the relationship between cognitive complaints, systemic inflammatory biomarkers, and psychological general well-being (PGWB) after mild/asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection, according to the presence of long COVID and work tasks.

Methods: University employees and metal workers were recruited in a cross-sectional study 4 months after SARS-CoV-2 infection to assess cognitive impairment, individual PGWB index, inflammatory biomarkers, namely platelet-lymphocyte, neutrophil-lymphocyte, and lymphocyte-monocyte ratios, and the presence of long COVID symptoms.

Results: A significant increase in the levels of inflammatory biomarkers was observed in subjects with long COVID.

The transorbital approach (TOA) is gaining popularity in skull base surgery scenarios.
