In this work the development of photoactive dressings (PAD) with dual purpose, is presented. These PAD can be used for the topical treatment of persistent infections caused by fungi and bacteria and are also applicable in light antitumor therapy for carcinoma. The synthesized PAD were designed employing conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPN) doped with platinum porphyrin which serve as polymerization photoinitiators and photosensitizers for the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Objectives: We conducted a cluster-randomized trial of an enhancement to an existing parenting program in rural Colombia (called the Family, Women, and Infancy Program [FAMI]), and found benefits to parenting practices and child development. In this study, we examine the effects of the enhancement on the quality of intervention implementation and examine associations between quality and child and maternal outcomes.

Methods: In Colombia, 340 FAMI mothers in 87 towns were randomly assigned to quality enhancement through the provision of structured curricula, play materials, and training and supervision from professional tutors, or to control (no enhancement).

A new photoinitiator system (PIS) based on riboflavin (Rf), triethanolamine, and multiwalled carbon nanobutes (MWCNTs) is presented for visible-light-induced photopolymerization of acrylic monomers. Using this PIS, photopolymerization of acrylamide and other acrylic monomers was quantitative in seconds. The intervention mechanism of CNTs in the PIS was studied deeply, proposing a surface interaction of MWCNTs with Rf which favors the radical generation and the initiation step.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating effects on Black and rural populations with a mortality rate among Blacks three times that of Whites and both rural and Black populations experiencing limited access to COVID-19 resources. The primary purpose of this study was to explore the health, financial, and psychological impact of COVID-19 among rural White Appalachian and Black nonrural central Kentucky church congregants. Secondarily we sought to examine the association between sociodemographics and behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs regarding COVID-19 and intent to vaccinate.

The use of conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CP NPs) of poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alt-benzothiadiazole) and poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl) as efficient photoinitiator systems (PIS) of vinyl polymerization in water is reported herein. CP NPs are biocompatible, excitable with blue commercial LEDs and, unlike visible light Type II PIS, do not need co-initiators to trigger a monomer chain reaction. CP NPs photoinitiate polymerization of a variety of acrylic monomers with initiation rates comparable to those observed for well-known Type II PIS.

The discovery of the Warburg effect, the preference of cancer cells to generate ATP via glycolysis rather than oxidative phosphorylation, has fostered the misconception that cancer cells become independent of the electron transport chain (ETC) for survival. This is inconsistent with the need of ETC function for the generation of pyrimidines. The development of convenient synthetic methods and improved materials for the production of high load-capacity and biocompatible drug delivery systems is a challenging task with important implications in health sciences. Purpose:: Herein, we describe a novel finding which appears as a reticular pattern on multicolor confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy image during routine imaging of retina and we aim to show whether there is an association between this pattern and dry eye findings.

Materials And Methods:: A total of 162 eyes of 81 patients that were scheduled for a routine retinal imaging by scanning laser ophthalmoscopy at a vitreoretinal practice underwent dry eye evaluation including corneal and conjunctival lissamine green staining, fluorescein staining, tear break-up time, and tear meniscus height measurement before acquiring any images. Then, multicolor images were taken and graded for the severity of reticular pattern.

Conjugated polymer nanoparticles are widely used in fluorescent labeling and sensing, as they have mean radii between 5 and 100 nm, narrow size dispersion, high brightness, and are photochemically stable, allowing single particle detection with high spatial and temporal resolution. Highly crosslinked polymers formed by linking individual chains through covalent bonds yield high-strength rigid materials capable of withstanding dissolution by organic solvents. Hence, the combination of crosslinked polymers and conjugated polymers in a nanoparticulated material presents the possibility of interesting applications that require the combined properties of constituent polymers and nanosized dimension.

Lithium diphenylphosphide unexpectedly provokes the ring-opening of tetrahydrofuran (THF) and by reaction with 3,6-dichloropyridazine leads to the formation of the ligand 3-chloro-6-(4-diphenylphosphinyl)butoxypyridazine (P⋯N), which was isolated. The reaction of this ligand with the (Re(CO)(THF)Br) dimer yields the novel complex [Br(CO)Re(μ-3-chloro-6-(4-diphenylphosphinyl)butoxypyridazine)Re(CO)Br] (BrRe(P⋯N)(N⋯P)ReBr), which was crystallized in the form of a chloroform solvate, (CHBrClNOPRe)·(CHCl). The monoclinic crystal (P2/n) displays a bimetallic cage structure with a symmetry inversion centre in the middle of the rhenium to rhenium line.
