Crystal structure of ()-1---butyl-diphenyl-silylglycerol: eight chiral mol-ecules in a triclinic cell.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound {systematic name: 3-[(-butyl-diphenyl-sil-yl)-oxy]propane-1,2-diol, CHOSi}, contains eight chiral mol-ecules (' = 8). These mol-ecules are connected a complex system of hydrogen bonds into an infinite assembly along the [100] axis; hydro-phobic -butyl and phenyl groups form an external coating of the assembly. These assemblies are packed by weak inter-molecular inter-actions in a peculiar formation resembling a 'header bond' masonry brick wall.

Efficient synthesis of 3-deoxy-1,2-O-isopropylidene-β-D- and β-L-threo-pentofuranose (1,2-O-isopropylidene-β-D- and β-L-cordycepose) was accomplished starting from D- and L-arabinofuranose derivatives, respectively, by the action of LiBH(Et)3 on corresponding intermediate 3-O-lyxofuranosyl trifluoromethanesulfonates.

Total synthesis and identification of two diastereoisomers of 1-methyl-2-[N-(p-tolylsulfonyl)-2-pyrrolidinyl]ethyl beta-L-fucopyranoside.

The reaction of a racemic mixture of (2R,2'S)- and (2S,2'R)-N-(p-tolylsulfonyl)-2-pyrrolidinyl-2-propanol, prepared from (S)-proline, with 2,3,4-tri-O-acetyl-alpha-L-fucopyranosyl trichloroacetimidate led to both diastereoisomers of the title compound after O-deacetylation.
