Anti-dsDNA, anti-Sm, and anti-ribosomal-P autoantibodies are hallmarks of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), being anti-dsDNA and anti-Sm included in 2019-ACR/EULAR SLE-Classification Criteria. Enzyme-linked (ELISA) and chemiluminescence assays (CIA) are widely established in immunology laboratories, but new technologies, such as particle-based multi-analyte technology (PMAT), are nowadays available. The present study aimed to compare the presence of anti-dsDNA and anti-Sm autoantibodies measured by CIA and PMAT and analyze diagnostic and clinical SLE activity performance.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how a type of kidney tumor called AML behaves over a long time, following 111 patients with 145 tumors between 2001 and 2019.
  • Most patients didn't have any symptoms, and only a small number needed surgery because their tumors were big.
  • The research found that AML tumors usually grow slowly, and doctors might not need to check them as often or use complex imaging tests.

Objectives: Anti-CENP-B (ACA), anti-topoisomerase I (ATA) and anti-RNA polymerase III (RP3) autoantibodies are included in the 2013 SSc-ACR/EULAR classification criteria. The detection of additional autoantibodies is of interest when those are negative. Additionally, we wonder if the IgA isotype might play a role in SSc.

Climate change and exposure to environmental pollutants play a key role in the onset and aggravation of allergic diseases. As different climate-dependent patterns of molecular immunoglobulin E (IgE) reactivity have been regionally described, we sought to investigate the evolving allergen exposome in distinctive allergic phenotypes and subtropical weather conditions through a Precision Allergy Molecular Diagnosis (PAMD@) model. Concurrent sensitization to several house dust mites (HDM) and storage mite molecules were broadly dominant in the investigated cohort, followed by the major cat allergen Fel d 1, and regardless of the basal allergic disease.

Article Synopsis
  • - Fungal allergies are a major contributor to respiratory issues, particularly worsening asthma, with specific fungi being more closely linked to allergic reactions and symptoms.
  • - These allergens can be found both outdoors, mainly in warm and dry conditions, and indoors, particularly in poorly ventilated areas, leading to potential exposure in various environments.
  • - The current methods for diagnosing fungal allergies are inconsistent and outdated, as they rely on a mix of allergenic sources that aren't well standardized, emphasizing the need for more precise, component-resolved diagnosis approaches.

Fear of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia can lead to inappropriate diabetes self-management and untoward health outcomes. We report two patients, representative of these opposite conditions, who benefited from hybrid closed-loop technology. In the patient with fear of hypoglycemia, time in range improved from 26 to 56% and the patient did not present with severe hypoglycemia.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to investigate the prevalence and mortality trends of mechanical complications in STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) over two decades, specifically comparing a pre-pPCI (primary percutaneous coronary intervention) period to a post-pPCI period.
  • - Among 6,033 STEMI patients analyzed, mechanical complications occurred in 135 patients, with free wall rupture (FWR) showing a significant reduction of 60% in the pPCI era compared to the pre-pPCI era.
  • - Despite the reduction in FWR, overall mortality rates for mechanical complications did not show significant changes between the two periods, indicating improvements in treatment may not have drastically altered outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a serious complication that can occur after an acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and its prognosis may differ based on whether the ST segment on an ECG is elevated (STEMI-CS) or not (NSTEMI-CS).
  • In a study involving 4,647 AMI patients, 239 developed CS, with STEMI-CS patients having larger heart damage and higher 30-day mortality (59.5%) compared to NSTEMI-CS patients (36.7%).
  • However, after three years, both groups showed similar long-term outcomes despite the initial differences in short-term mortality rates.

Primary ventricular fibrillation (PVF) is a life-threatening complication of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). It is unclear what roles viral infection and/or systemic inflammation may play as underlying triggers of PVF, as a second hit in the context of acute ischaemia. Here we aimed to evaluate whether the circulating virome and inflammatory proteome were associated with PVF development in patients with STEMI.
