Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a curative treatment for several hematological diseases. Prospective and retrospective studies have associated myeloablative conditioning regimens with increased non-relapse mortality and less intense regimens with disease relapse, leading to similar overall survival rates. Analyze the experience with the different RIC schemes in patients transplanted for AML/MDS in our program.

Background: Dosimetry in intraoperative electron radiotherapy (IOERT) poses distinct challenges, especially with inclined applicators deviating from international protocols. The demand for novel tissue grafting and regenerative wound care biomaterials is growing as traditional options often fall short in biocompatibility, functional integration with human tissue, associated cost(s), and sustainability. Salmon aquaculture generates significant volumes of waste, offering a sustainable opportunity for biomaterial production, particularly in osteo-conduction/-induction, and de novo clinical/surgical bone regeneration. Henceforth, this study explores re-purposing salmon waste through a standardized pre-treatment process that minimizes the biological content, followed by a treatment stage to remove proteins, lipids, and other compounds, resulting in a mineral-rich substrate.

Unravelling the role of beta-CGRP in inflammatory bowel disease and its potential role in gastrointestinal homeostasis.

Background: The role of beta calcitonin gene-related peptide (beta-CGRP) in gastrointestinal tract is obscure, but experimental models suggest an effect on the homeostasis of the intestinal mucosa. We measured beta-CGRP circulating levels in a large series of subjects with a recent diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), in order to assess the potential role of this neuropeptide in IBD pathogenesis.

Methods: Morning serum beta-CGRP levels were measured by ELISA (CUSABIO, China) in 96 patients recently diagnosed of IBD and compared with those belonging from 50 matched healthy controls (HC) and 50 chronic migraine (CM) patients.

Introduction: Subclinical tuberculosis (TB) is the presence of TB disease among people who are either asymptomatic or have minimal symptoms.
