Professional identity of nurses in pandemic times: new/old challenges reproduced in news media.

Objective: To analyze aspects related to the professional identity of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic usingnews media as a source.

Method: Qualitative, and retrospective document study with 51 reports from Folha de São Paulo from March to December 2020. Data was organized using ATLAS.

Historicity of nursing graduate studies in Brazil: an analysis of the Sociology of the Professions.

Objectives: to analyze the scientific productions about the history of graduate studies in Brazilian nursing in the light of Eliot Freidson's Sociology of the Professions.

Methods: an integrative review, carried out in the databases indexed in Virtual Health Library. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses recommendations were followed.

Social representations of comfort for patients' family members in palliative care in intensive care.

Objective: To know the social representations of comfort for patients' family members in palliative care in intensive care.

Method: Descriptive, qualitative study, theoretical framework adopted was Social Representations. 30 family members of patients admitted to an intensive care unit in palliative care participated.

Work process: a basis for understanding nursing errors.

Objective: To identify work process-related causes associated with nursing errors reported in newspapers.

Method: This was a documentary and qualitative study based on the work process theory and hermeneutic analysis that examined 112 news articles published between 2012 and 2016 in 21 high-circulation Brazilian newspapers, organized and codified using Atlas.ti software.

Nursing errors in the media: patient safety in the window.

Objective: To analyze the nursing errors reported by the journalistic media and interpret the main implications of this communication for the visibility of this problem.

Method: Documental research, qualitative, descriptive and exploratory, with data collected in news reports from Brazil and Portugal, analyzed through hermeneutics with resources of Atlas Software.

Results: We analyzed 112 news items published between 2012 and 2016 that resulted in six categories: Year - highest occurrence in 2012; Age group of the patient - children; Professional category - nurses; Type of error - medication; Outcome - death; Possible attributed cause - occupational conditions.

Brazilian and North-American nursing in the HOPE Project (1972): approximations and gaps.

Objective: Understand the structuring and operation of the Nursing Service on the hospital ship HOPE and the relations between Nursing from North America and from Rio Grande do Norte.

Method: Qualitative, sociohistorical research, developed by consulting documentary and oral sources.

Results: The analysis revealed the categories: The HOPE Project: impressions of its nurses and Nursing on the hospital ship SS HOPE: Brazilian impressions.

North American nurse educators in the HOPE Earth Project and Nursing teaching.

Objective: analyze the activities of the North American nurse educators of the Project Health Opportunity for People Everywhere Earth (HOPE Earth Project) in Natal, state capital of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil (1974-1981).

Method: sociohistorical, qualitative study, resulting from filed documents and ten semistructured interviews. These sources were processed and analyzed using Oral History and Thematic Analysis.

[History of care to women in the Maternity Carmela Dutra, Florianópolis-SC, Brazil (1956-2001)].

This study examines the practices of care developed by nurses to women at Maternity Carmela Dutra, Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state, Brazil, in the period 1956 to 2001. It is a qualitative research with socio-historical approach. Nine nurses were interviewed using the technique of thematic oral history.

Nursing in Brazil a critical-holistic perspective.

Global and local insecurities influence the Brazilian health care system and the complexities of the healthcare workforce. Nursing in Brazil is shaped by socio-political and historical factors. This paper conceptualizes nursing as a social practice and uses Wright's (2000) "Critical-Holistic Paradigm for an Interdependent World" as a guide framework to analyze how nursing education and professional practice exist within the country's socio-economic and political reality while being constructed within the domains of science and technology.

[The Brazilian Nursing Congress: sixty years of history].

This study objective is to describe the issues associated to the origin of the Brazilian Nursing Congress and its course between 1947 and 2007; and to discuss the implementation of this strategy by the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEn). It is a historical survey with documentary research. The documentary analysis allowed reaching the following categories: the origin of the Brazilian Nursing Congress and the congresses as the political nursing arena.

[HIV and the nursing professional in the face of needlestick accidents].

The goal of this study was to identify the scientific production about work-related needlestick accidents among nursing professionals involving HIV-contaminated biological material, as well as to characterize the pre-existing factors to such accidents, such as procedures occurring after the exposure to potentially HIV-contaminated needlestick material. This is a literature review, whose bibliographic search for keywords was carried out within the LILACS databases from the year 2000 onward. This study confirms that pre-existing factors for the occurrence of work-related needlestick accidents are related to work conditions as much as to individual conditions.

[Olga Verderese--a life dedicated to nursing].

The aim of the research was to describe the educational and professional history of Olga Verderese and highlight her remarkable contributions to the scientific field of the profession. It was based on Bourdieu's concepts of habitus and scientific field. The sociohistorical study used sources such as interviews with Olga Verderese, a thesis and a dissertation on the topic and documents such as articles, books and recommendations by the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEn).

[Therapies used in Hospital Colônia Sant'Ana: the cradle of psychiatry in Santa Catarina State, Brazil (1941-1960)].

This article is a qualitative research with socio-historical approach which aimed at describing the history of the treatment given to psychiatric patients hospitalized in the old Hospital named Colônia Sant'Ana, in the period between 1941 and 1960. The data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with five employees that worked at the Hospital in the period, using the Verbal Method of History. After the analysis of the interviews using the content analysis of Bardin, it was achieved the following results - the psychiatric patients hospitalized were submitted to some therapies such as: electric discharge, insulin therapy, specifics drugs, occupational therapy and family care.

Communication between nursing staff and clients unable to communicate verbally.

This is an experience developed during the Master program in Nursing at UFSC. It aimed to reflect on the nursing care delivered to the patient unable to verbally communicate, based on Paterson and Zderad's Theory and to analyze the communicational process between nursing and client. The experience was carried out in the Intensive Care Center of a private hospital in two stages: non-participating observation and three existential workshops, involving nine nursing technicians.

[The experience of communitary health agents with sexually transmitted diseases].

It is an experience report in the training of Communitary Health Agents, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, developed in health centers in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. The challenge of this experience is related to difficulties in transmitting information in face of limitations of the Communitary Health Agents in this area. It was used problem-solving methodology, developing workshops, performing, modellings, seminars, educational tapes, experience reports, among other, using as subsidies the didactic materials of the Health Ministry.

[Florence Nightingale and charity sisters: revisiting the history].

This study presents an historical analysis on the links between the nursing practice and the influence received from various religious orders/associations along the times, especially from Saint Vincent Paul's charity sisters. The professional nursing which was pioneered by Florence Nightingale in the XlXth century, was directly influenced by the teachings of love and fraternity. In addition, other contributions from the religious orders/associations were the concepts of altruism, valorization of an adequate environment for the care of patients, and the division of work in nursing.

[Meanings of non-care practices from the point of view of hospital clients].

Its aim is to identify awareness of the types of non-care (lack of care)/violence that occur at hospital units. The methodology is qualitative and we have interviewed 29 clients. We have established four main categories: lack of attention, disrespect, discomfort, and irresponsibility.

[Hilda Anna Krisch: a nursing pioneer in Santa Catarina--education and contribution for the profession].

This is a socio-historical research whose objective is to unveil the historicity of the first nurse in Santa Catarina who graduated at a Nursing School in the twentieth century, a character who had a prominent role in the national scene for her performance as a nurse. The data collection was carried out through the examination of many historical documents: interviews conducted with her and other people who had been part of the scene of the time, as well as other documentary sources, such as letters, school and professional reports, pictures, among others. To analyse the data, it was used an approach based on the social imagery.

[Psychiatry reform: analysis of power relations in mental health care services].

This paper approaches the topic of Psychiatric Care Reform in Brazil and, particularly, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the role played by a disciplinary power in modern society. We believe that in spite of the implementation of a reform in Psychiatric care and the growing progress in the legislation aimed at protecting psychiatric patients, such individuals are still the objects and the instruments inside relationships of disciplinary power. This study is based on Michel Foucalt's works, especially on his analysis of the power relationships, in order to elicit answers to our main question, to support the thesis we formulated, and to reach our goal, which is to ponder on the discrepancy we perceive between legal victories and the new speech delivered by the psychiatric care reformers, and on a practice which seems to deny emancipation to psychiatric sufferers, that is, deny their citizenship.

[Professional image and identity in the building of nursing knowledge].

Based on a historic qualitative study, using documental analyse we searched for the dispersions in the construction of knowledge in the articles of the Anais do Congresso Brasileiro de Enfermagem, from 1977 through 1987. The dispersions emerged as categories that repeat themselves as subjects of note or as smaller punctuation. Our analyze converged into two main categories: professional image and professional identity.

[The theme as intersubjectivity possibility -- the choice of the nursing journal: text and context].

The present study is a descriptive and exploratory research which has as its objective accomplishing a critical analysis of the magazine "Texto e Contexto-Enfermagem" (Nursing--Text and Context), as a thematic option. Eighteen issues of the magazine, published between 1992 and 2000, were analyzed. Two instruments were used to evaluate the inter-relation of the themes with the lines of research of the Post Graduation Program of Nursing in the Federal University of Santa Catarina (PEN/UFSC) in Brazil; the type of articles published; and the origin and profile of the authors of the magazine.
