Objective: To analyze the nursing errors reported by the journalistic media and interpret the main implications of this communication for the visibility of this problem.

Method: Documental research, qualitative, descriptive and exploratory, with data collected in news reports from Brazil and Portugal, analyzed through hermeneutics with resources of Atlas Software.

Results: We analyzed 112 news items published between 2012 and 2016 that resulted in six categories: Year - highest occurrence in 2012; Age group of the patient - children; Professional category - nurses; Type of error - medication; Outcome - death; Possible attributed cause - occupational conditions.

The goal of this study was to identify the scientific production about work-related needlestick accidents among nursing professionals involving HIV-contaminated biological material, as well as to characterize the pre-existing factors to such accidents, such as procedures occurring after the exposure to potentially HIV-contaminated needlestick material. This is a literature review, whose bibliographic search for keywords was carried out within the LILACS databases from the year 2000 onward. This study confirms that pre-existing factors for the occurrence of work-related needlestick accidents are related to work conditions as much as to individual conditions.

This article is a qualitative research with socio-historical approach which aimed at describing the history of the treatment given to psychiatric patients hospitalized in the old Hospital named Colônia Sant'Ana, in the period between 1941 and 1960. The data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with five employees that worked at the Hospital in the period, using the Verbal Method of History. After the analysis of the interviews using the content analysis of Bardin, it was achieved the following results - the psychiatric patients hospitalized were submitted to some therapies such as: electric discharge, insulin therapy, specifics drugs, occupational therapy and family care.

This is an experience developed during the Master program in Nursing at UFSC. It aimed to reflect on the nursing care delivered to the patient unable to verbally communicate, based on Paterson and Zderad's Theory and to analyze the communicational process between nursing and client. It is an experience report in the training of Communitary Health Agents, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, developed in health centers in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. The challenge of this experience is related to difficulties in transmitting information in face of limitations of the Communitary Health Agents in this area. This study presents an historical analysis on the links between the nursing practice and the influence received from various religious orders/associations along the times, especially from Saint Vincent Paul's charity sisters. The professional nursing which was pioneered by Florence Nightingale in the XlXth century, was directly influenced by the teachings of love and fraternity. In addition, other contributions from the religious orders/associations were the concepts of altruism, valorization of an adequate environment for the care of patients, and the division of work in nursing.

This is a socio-historical research whose objective is to unveil the historicity of the first nurse in Santa Catarina who graduated at a Nursing School in the twentieth century, a character who had a prominent role in the national scene for her performance as a nurse. The data collection was carried out through the examination of many historical documents: interviews conducted with her and other people who had been part of the scene of the time, as well as other documentary sources, such as letters, school and professional reports, pictures, among others. To analyse the data, it was used an approach based on the social imagery.

This paper approaches the topic of Psychiatric Care Reform in Brazil and, particularly, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the role played by a disciplinary power in modern society. We believe that in spite of the implementation of a reform in Psychiatric care and the growing progress in the legislation aimed at protecting psychiatric patients, such individuals are still the objects and the instruments inside relationships of disciplinary power. This study is based on Michel Foucalt's works, especially on his analysis of the power relationships, in order to elicit answers to our main question, to support the thesis we formulated, and to reach our goal, which is to ponder on the discrepancy we perceive between legal victories and the new speech delivered by the psychiatric care reformers, and on a practice which seems to deny emancipation to psychiatric sufferers, that is, deny their citizenship.

Based on a historic qualitative study, using documental analyse we searched for the dispersions in the construction of knowledge in the articles of the Anais do Congresso Brasileiro de Enfermagem, from 1977 through 1987. The dispersions emerged as categories that repeat themselves as subjects of note or as smaller punctuation. Our analyze converged into two main categories: professional image and professional identity.

The present study is a descriptive and exploratory research which has as its objective accomplishing a critical analysis of the magazine "Texto e Contexto-Enfermagem" (Nursing--Text and Context), as a thematic option. Eighteen issues of the magazine, published between 1992 and 2000, were analyzed. Two instruments were used to evaluate the inter-relation of the themes with the lines of research of the Post Graduation Program of Nursing in the Federal University of Santa Catarina (PEN/UFSC) in Brazil; the type of articles published; and the origin and profile of the authors of the magazine.
