Lepromatous Reaction Type II: Clinical and Laboratory Aspects.

In Type II lepromatous reaction, there is exacerbation of humoral immunity, classified as Gell & Coombs Type III hypersensitivity reaction. It is more common in lepromatous borderline (LB) and lepromatous lepromatous (LL) patients. Our objective was to study the clinical and laboratorial expressions of lepromatous Type II reactions, establishing concordances between them, and for this the medical records of leprosy patients observed at the Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (HUCFF/UFRJ) were reviewed.

Quantification of histopathological changes in patients with psoriasis before and after phototherapy.

Background: One of the most used resources for the treatment of psoriasis is ultraviolet radiation (UV) with psoralens (PUVA) and narrow-band UV (UVB-NB 311-312 nm). Although many researchers have assessed the histopathological effects of this therapy modality, none used a morphological classification system specific to psoriasis.

Purpose: To assess the clinical and histopathological response in the phototherapy treatment of plaque psoriasis with PUVA and UVB-NB with use of PASI and TROZAK.

Evaluation of treatment with carboxymethylcellulose on chronic venous ulcers.

Background: Among the chronic leg ulcers, venous ulcers are the most common and constitute a major burden to public health. Despite all technology available, some patients do not respond to established treatments. In our study, carboxymethylcellulose was tested in the treatment of refractory chronic venous ulcers.
