Introduction: the deuterium dilution technique is a reference method for measuring body composition in children. However, to our knowledge, there is no report on how some of the procedures used affect the measurement of total body water (TBW) and other estimates.
Objective: to analyze whether considering fluid intake and urine excretion during the test affects the final TBW, fat mass and fat free mass results.
The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of a national program of consumption of fortified milk "Liconsa" on the nutritional status of iron and zinc in pre-school children (3-5 y). The study was conducted in 77 healthy children of both genders. 54 of them consumed Liconsa fortified milk (GCLFL) and 23 consumed no fortified milk (GR).

Six hundred and four children, 6 to 10 years of age, from 17 municipalities of the state of Sonora were measured for weight and height and age established from birth certificate school records. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was determined by the new version of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC/NCHS), the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) and the values proposed by The World Health Organization (WHO) that was utilized in the National Nutrition Survey of 1999 in Mexico (ENN).
