Titanium dental meshes have a wide application in order to ensure the retention of calcium phosphate-based biomaterials to regenerate bone tissue. These meshes are temporary and must grow a soft tissue to prevent bacterial colonization and provide stability. In this work, we aimed to optimize the roughness of the meshes to obtain a good biological seal while maintaining a behavior that did not favor bacterial colonization.

The work of community health workers in major cities in Brazil: mediation, community action, and health care.

This paper examines the role of community health workers (CHWs) and discusses the challenges in performing their multiple functions as: mediators linking the community and health services, community organizers, and care providers. A survey of CHWs was conducted in four towns in Brazil. The results indicate that during their home visits and community actions, the CHW perform educational and care activities for priority groups.

Economic analysis of cucumber and lettuce intercropping under greenhouse in the winter-spring.

The economical analysis complements the evaluation of the intercrop systems efficiency, considering besides the physical production of crops, the price of products according to their quality classification and time of the year. Family health: limits and possibilities for an integral primary care approach to health care in Brazil.

The article analyzes the implementation of the Family Health Strategy (FH) and discusses its potential to guide the organization of the Unified Health System in Brazil, based on the integration of FH to the health care network and intersectorial action, crucial aspects of a comprehensive primary health care. Four case studies were carried out in cities with high FH coverage (Aracaju, Belo Horizonte, Florianópolis e Vitória), using as sources: semi-structured interviews with managers and surveys with health care professionals and registered families. The integration analysis highlighted the position of FH Strategy in the health services network, the integration mechanisms and the availability of information for continuity of care.

The importance of nutritional supplementation in diabetes remains an unresolved issue. The present study was undertaken to examine the effects of alpha-tocopherol and CoQ(10), powerful antioxidants, on metabolic control and on the pancreatic mitochondria of GK rats, a model of type 2 diabetes. We also evaluated the efficacy of these nutrients in preventing the diabetic pancreatic lesions observed in GK rats.

Vasectomy effect on canine seminal plasma biochemical components and their correlation with seminal parameters.

Three semen samples were collected at 48 h intervals from 20 mature research dogs previously conditioned to manual semen collection. Vasectomy was performed in all dogs, and 15 days after surgery, another three ejaculates were similarly collected. The semen was evaluated, and centrifuged to obtain seminal plasma for measurement of pH, and concentrations of total proteins (TP), total chlorides (Cl), calcium (Ca), potassium (K), and sodium (Na).
